187 arrested at Ontario California street race

Post by kostby »

Quote, originally posted by LA Times » Police arrested more than 180 people gathered at an illegal street racing site in an industrial area near Ontario International Airport early this morning, authorities said.Among those arrested were two drivers and a "flagger," who signals the start of the race, who were booked on misdemeanor charges, given citations and released, said Sgt. David McBride of the Ontario Police Department....Authorities also picked up 184 spectators who were lining the streets to watch the race. They were given citations for watching the illegal activity. Of the 184, 47 were juveniles who also were cited for violation of the city's 10 p.m. curfew.More than 100 officers from 12 agencies, including the Ontario police, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Riverside Police Department and California Highway Patrol were involved in the arrest, which took place shortly before 1 a.m. on Airport Drive west of Etiwanda Avenue. The officers were part of a task force targeting street racing in different cities, McBride said....The drivers' cars were impounded for 30 days, and 74 other cars were towed away when their owners were arrested.... So flagging is illegal in California! Remember that next 4th of July! How DO you hide 100 officers in a crowd of 200 people, except as plain-clothes 'spectators'??????IMHO this was a publicity stunt for some prosecutor running for re-election. I'll bet most of the charges are dropped!Link to full LA Times article -->http://www.latimes.com/news/la-me-stree ... ?track=rss

well in MN they block the streets then get people on the way out. They also have police around the area incase people escape through means of driving over curbs or running away.

^ That's how I've seen it done down in the outskirts of NYC. They may not get your for racing, but there is some kind of BS $200 ticket you get for witnessing or contributing to the activity. The kids who try to bail and pull a F&F move, get busted, sometimes suspended and towed cars on the spot.

Some areas here in SoCal CRUSH the cars of street racers.I question the legality/constitutionality of this, but don't think many of them are going to have the bucks to fight it in court.

Take it to a closed course. Doing it out on public roads presents too many variables. I say this because on a nightly basis I hear screeching tires and roaring engines zooming past my house, which is about 10 feet from the street, and one of these nights someone is going to screw up and do some serious damage. Maybe instead of crushing their cars they should just suspend their licenses and impound the cars for the duration of the suspension.

it wasnt me!!!!!! jkits crazy they got so many people.and well its just another part of the F&F world some people are livin in.i think car crushing is an extreme thing to do, but some of those cars have stolen parts/engines and those deserve more punishment.

Just FYI, there aren't many "legal" closed course tracks or strips to run on, the ones that are still open are on VERY limited schedules (i.e. 1-2 times per month or 120mi away!). As for cars getting crushed, it is my understanding that they only crush cars that are found to have stolen parts on them.
