High flow catalytic converter, will it fit?

Post by THE VIBERATOR »

Hello everyone! In my search for a good exhaust, i've decided to piece out my stock exhaust for power instead of going full catback. I removed my resonator today and put a straight pipe in there, which greatly helped. I'm now looking for a high flow catalytic converter. I found one online for 220 bucks, but it is for a 2002 toyota corolla 1.8L. As far as I know, it should fit, seeing how the matrix/vibe/corolla are basically the same car, but I want to be sure. Also if anyone knows someone selling one for less, or if you happen to have come across a cheap one recently, let me know! As always, any help is appreciated. Thanks again!Joe

Just go with any high-flow cat.Magnaflow makes some.I remember guys around here saying they paid $90 for one.But I can't remember the stock size, inlet and outlet since my exhaust is fully custom and it's been a long time.

Avoid those high flow cats like a rabid dog with a bad case of the mange. They dont last, will trigger CEL's If your going with a magna flow cat get part number 94105 instead. Many here have had issues with the high flow model.

Is that true? I see the part number 94105. It's a high flow cat made by Magnaflow. Does that one fit the vibe? I don't see why the cats would throw a CEL. Maybe it's the uptight ecu we all have...those of us that own base automatic models anyways. Can you elaborate a little bit for me? I'd like to get this done before winter time.

The 94105 model is not a "high flow" cat. it is a 49 state obdII certified replacement and is the one you need to replace yours with. The high flow model is i believe a 5xxxx series. Some people on 9th gen and matrixowners tried them and had issues. They flow more but will not pass emissions and fail often. Just get the 94105 model if a bad cat is indeed the problem.

No it's not a bad cat that's the problem, I'm looking to mod my exhaust without having to buy a full catback, i will actually get more gains out of the exhaust that way, which is why i was looking for a high flow cat. If you have any suggestions, I'd like to hear them. And chances are I will buy a high flow cat and install it, see if it runs, but then if it doesnt, I'll just have to try something else. Vibes have 2 cats, one is welded to the midpipe and one to the header, if i'm not mistaken. I'm planning on buying a dc sports header, and along with that, i'll replace the cat thats welded to the midpipe with a high flow cat. Maybe after that, i'll find a cheap tailpipe.

Both cats are on the mid-pipe.If you're getting the header,I'd wait and get it done all at one time and save the expense.I have a high flow cat and it doesn't rattle or cause any cels...so.You may have to get a cel eliminator if it does through a code, but they are a cheap after thought.

Indeed they are. I just looked at my car. So it looks like 2 high flow cats and a dc sports header are in line for my vibe's future! It may take a while since i dont work much anymore, but i will see it done Give me about 2 or 3 months and we'll at least see two cats. The header will be my last project, or i can save it for the spring.

And also, Kevera, what brand is your cat? I need to know if any other brands besides mangnaflow make them. By the looks of it, nobody else makes a high flow cat for my model, which would be the base auto fwd.

i wouldn't bother with the high flow cats, they don't provide any gain you'll notice

Well, the way i see it, they provide me with flow. And my stock exhaust is very restrictive in those terms. There's that annoying foot and a half long resonator, then the two catalytic converters in the way as well. Basically I'll be freeing up from about 80% flow without them to 100% flow. They shouldn't really provide anything ridiculous on the horsepower side, but maybe a few. They would provide quite a bit if i went with a midpipe and a header as well.
