just bought 04 gt

Post by ryan04gt »

got a good deal today on a 04 vibe gt. gonna be great for me and my boys. gonna do the first oil change at work on monday, so that will be out of the way. my first impression is its great to drive. i know the engine loves to be revved up, but most of the cars i had didnt have much kick after 6k. btw, going from my 99 r/t neon to this is great!!also, found this, it says 02-03, but would it work on my 04? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors....m245how much are unichips, and how often do they come available used?

matrix xrs parts will fit the vibe gt (from the same generation)oh hello and welcome! That seller seems slightly stupid, I would try a different seller since they dont know what years the matrix xrs were made, 03-05. But there are a couple models aem, injen, cosmo and trd i think. Unichip is hard to get tuned unless you live near a authorized unichip tuner. there are a couple others like emanage but greddy just went under :/

welcome! I had an 03 VGT. Now, please keep in mind that the 04 VGT had some sort of air pump (i believe) or smog pump, can't remember. so CAI didn't all fit from 03 to 04 VGT due to where it hit. Now I do know that Injen made one and I believe Cosmo Racing did. I had a TRD CAI for my 03, but it threw the CEL. I then added the Unichip and had is tuned from the factory to my specs. It definitely smoothed the car out, got rid of the CEL, but in no way was it a HUGE difference. Enough that I wouldn't give it up, but not enough to spend that $700 on it again. However, I've seen plenty of them FS used for a lot less than half what I paid for mine back in the "day." You can send it off to Unichip in OR and have them reprogram it for your car. Takes about 30 mins or less to install it and it's completely plug and play. Very easy. the downside is anytime you add a major mod, you have to have it reprogrammed. So, better to get the mods you want for the car and then send it off imo.my suggestions for the VGT:POWER/PERFORMANCE:1. CAI = make sure it fits specifically for the 04 2zz. Trix ones will fit, however you will need to shove the filter up on the tube further because their foglights are in a diff location for the Vibe. Injen or Cosmo will have the best fitment (don't cheap out and by the ebay crap that no ones heard of please.2. exhaust = I recommend the magnaflow exhaust. There are others out there, but that seems to be the nicest sound and best gains (imo)3. Engine Management = Unichip, Greddy, Camcom or otherwise to tie in all your power/performance mods4. LW Crank Pulley = cheap and easy, helps with acceleration5. shifter bushings = cheap and firms up the very very sloppy shifts, maybe even a short shifter6. Forced Induction! Ok, only if you want to be a baller or go uber crazy, wished I did this to mine, but I'm sure the torque steer would be insane. Still, would be pretty cool.SUSPENSION/TIRES/BRAKES1. TIRES! you need much much better than the crappy stockers2. Brakes = upgrade those pads! if you want more power, you gotta have more stop too!3. SUSPENSION = bare minimum is a Rear Sway Bar. Progress, Hotchkis, there are others out there. I know I bought a Progress RSB for about $100?? It was cheap! and took 5 mins to install. Should consider the front sway bar too. Maybe a front and rear strut tower brace, but those don't add that much difference. we noticed it in our base Vibe, but we also autox'd it.4. Springs/Coilovers = if you can't afford fancy coilovers than go with some nice performance springs. the body roll on the Vibe is terrible! tighten up the suspension and you will be surprised how well the car can take corners. I had TRD Springs on mine and Mav had Tein S-Techs on his. Both seemed to do well, but the Teins were better imo.there you go.and LIFT should be right about 6300 RPMs.

remember, when it comes to car parts and electronics, I have learned you get what you pay for.
