Curt 12221 Hitch for 2009 GT

Post by Theodoreable »

Has anyone installed the Curt 12221 Hitch on a 2009 GT. If so, did the rear fascia require cutting? How much of the hitch is exposed beyond the fascia? Many thanks!

I installed a curt hitch model 12221 on my 09 GT and it does not require any cutting of the facia. The hitch receiver, not with the hitch insert in the receiver, the receiver extends out about 3/4 to an inch from the facia. I am calling the hitch insert the part of the hitch the ball bolts to, it is a seperate part from the receiver. With the hitch insert in the receiver the curve of the insert is about an inch out from the facia. I turned my hitch insert to raise the ball, you can go either way, but my motorcycle trailer was too low with the hitch insert in the down position. I am very pleased with the hitch, it fit very well, fit and finish was excellent.

Whiteslice,I wanted to use the hitch for a bicycle carrier but first read in the printed instructions on-line that the fascia had to be cut. (I really did not want to do this.) A few months later the directions no longer mentioned that the fascia required cutting. I am very grateful to you for taking the time to write and for including a picture. Thank you!
