given that it is a simple plug in for the ipod you are probably only going to see AUX or Ipod show up and still have to control it through the unit. They may sell an adapter for your car that will allow you to charge and control the unit from the head, but unless its aftermarket or an advanced system like in Acura's or BMW's then you may be out of luck .
If the patch cord plugs into the bottom of the I-pod , where the charging USB cable plugs in, you may be luck. If you are using the headphone jack you are not, as there is no way to send control signals through that connection.

Does anyone more tech-savvy than me know said ipod-to-Head-unit patch cord exists? If so, where would one aquire an item like that?I would like to get the info displayed on the radio too.
Is there an Ipod plug on the GT radio or is it just an auxiliary port like the BASE and AWD radio? If there is only an Aux port than you cannot send these information trough it since it's only a sound input port. In which case you'll probably need to change your radio if you want ipod integration.

It's just a regular headphone type port on the radio, just like the base and AWD I believe. I see where you're comming from... there wouldn't be any way for the data to get to the radio, would there?
