Local Pontiac Dealer loses franchise

Post by nygiantzz1 »

I got a letter in the mail telling me that my local Pontiac dealer was no longer selling Pontiacs. This is the place I bought my Vibe and Michele's G5. Here's a link to the news article from the local paper: http://www.dailygazette.com/ne...aler/This is just more of GM's corporate nonsense at work. Let's realign all the divisions even if means losing your best selling franchise in the area. I could undertand this if Wedekind wasn't moving cars, but they really do outsell all the other area dealers. Now I have to deal with a huge franchise in Albany if I need warranty work. It's just sad.

The main one by the airport-the one that's been here since as long as I can remember-decided they weren't going to sell Pontiacs anymore but rather just the Linc-Merc-Isuzus. At the end of this month, they're going to just sell Volvo ?! We have a new Pontiac-Buick-GMC dealer in town (very inconvenient and a bad spot) and one closer to us where we bought them ($$ oil change!)

New York State no doubt has very strong auto franchise laws that protect dealers. I suspect that this dealer looked at the money GM was offering to buy back the franchise and decided it was a better financial alternative than continuing to sell new cars.

Yeah, American brand car dealerships are disappearing at a fast rate around here. The dealership I bought my Vibe from folded a year after I bought it. And they were in business for over 50 years!!! Fortunately there is another Pontiac dealer less than 5 miles from my house.

Curious coincidence, or what? One of the oldest pure Pontiac dealers in Indianapolis, the Tom Wood dealership on East Washington St. in Indianapolis had a $1.5 million fire last night (Saturday) shortly after closing. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if just maybe, MAYBE he got a letter from GM informing him that they were jerking the franchise??

I lost my awesome Pontiac dealer that I bought my Vibe from in mid-07, and went to my backup dealer a few times (love them too!) and they closed this spring. So the only even remotely close Pontiac dealer left is the scummy one.. Diane

I live near great adventure, but drive to red bank to go to Rassas pontiac. if they ever go out, idk what i'll do. if you're in a bind, and you don't mind the drive, i highly recommend them.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

The Pontiac dealer where I got my Vibe last September (Davis Pontiac in Richboro, PA) had been in business since Pontiac was launched in 1926. Despite that, they closed a couple of months later and "merged" with a Buick-GMC dealer a little farther away - I guess current GM policy is that there are no more stand-alone Pontiac dealers.
