don't mess with the OPP

Post by joatmon »

http://www.northumberlandnews....04323Tue Aug 05, 2008Quote »At 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, the OPP stopped a 2005 Pontiac Vibe hatchback with too many passengers on the 4th Line in Port Hope. A person was seen riding in the hatchback area of the car. The young driver, an 18-year-old Port Hope man, was charged under the new stunt driving law. His driver’s license and motor vehicle were seized for seven days. Const. Dewsbury said riding with more passengers than seatbelts is incredibly dangerous if the car gets into an accident.“On collision you become a human projectile. That’s the bottom line,” said Const. Dewsbury. “If you’re not seatbelted you could end up going through the windshield or striking another passenger.” ouch! license and car for 7 days. That would sucksame link (but not a vibe)Quote »A short time later, an OPP officer was conducting radar on Hwy. 401 by Port Hope when a vehicle was clocked at 151 km/h and, as of last September, anyone caught going 50 km above the speed limit in Ontario is considered to be street racing. The fines for street racers and aggressive drivers was increased to $10,000 and police immediately suspend the driver’s license and impound the vehicle for seven days. Northumberland OPP had the vehicle towed and the driver was issued a driver’s license suspension. Those Ontario Provincial Police have some serious damage to do to you lawbreakers

I actually thought they were following California where they would impound the vehicle forever if you were caught going 50 km's over the speed limit.Good to know.I don't think the OPP are any worse than some of the American state troopers, here they give you a 20 km lea-way on the highways.

Well usually I would never go 40 over when I lived in ON even on the 401... but 50 over by your lonesome costs you $10,000 and a racing ticket/suspension? ouchy.

I like the new street racing law. Saw someone getting towed away on the 401 past Kingston. A friend of ours who is OPP said they had likely been doing over 50 and lost their car for a week and that they're getting a lot of them.

I've never been real big on Govt agencies cracking down on what should be plain old common sense. But these days there doesn't seem to be much. In the day, we never raced where we could endanger anyone but ourselves. And I figured if WE got hurt it was our dumb fault. But around here, its bad. these little Team Teryaki ninjas think they can race anytime somebody pulls up alongside. They do it during rush hour, with some horrifying results.
