I seen the toyota corola on tv advertising 35mpg with the 1.8 and it's the car the Matrix is based off and our vibe also, so howcome ours is only rated at 29 ? and then I seen the new ford focus is rated at like 44mph highway, how do they do this and we are stuck so far behind? I thought toyota was all about fuel economy and being industry best in class for ages in it?
2009 Vibe, 'Trix, & "Rolla all have the same mpg. The ads have the mpg for hwy in a manual. You must have ordered an auto transmission. Autos get lower mpg across the board. The Focus is rrated 24/35. In Europe they can get a diesel Focus that is rated 42 mpg hwy. We will never see that car in the US. They can get a lot of higher mpg cars than we can.
fueleconomy.gov doesn't list an 09 Focus yet, but for the 2009 Vibe/Matrix/Corolla they sayCorolla1.8L Auto 27C 35H1.8L Man. 26C 35H2.4L Man. 22C 30H2.4L Auto 22C 30HMatrix1.8L Man, 26C 32H1.8L Auto 25C 31H2.4L Auto (S5) 21C 29H2.4L Man. 21C 28H2.4L Auto 20C 26H (AWD?)Vibe1.8L Man, 26C 32H1.8L Auto 26C 31H2.4L Auto (S5) 21C 29H2.4L Man. 21C 28H2.4L Auto 20C 26H (AWD?)I'd attribute the difference in 1.8L Auto city rating between Vibe and Matrix to be margin of error in the testing.I'd attribute the Corolla's overall better numbers to lower weight and better aerodynamics
