Sunroof panic!

Post by Lorin »

I left the kids in the car for a few minutes today with the sunroof open while I ran into the convenience mart. When I came out, the 11 year old had decided she didn't like the sun and had CLOSED the sun shade with the sunroof open! I tried everything I could, but couldn't get sunshade back in place. The glass would not close. After we completed our trip to Hershey's Chocolate World and returned home, I improvised a tool out of a carpenters square (the only thing long and flat enough to reach back into the moonroof cavity). I was able to spring the shade back under the glass so it would work again. Fortunately this happened close to home, or !I said "honey, like I've been saying to your mother for years, when you are working something mechanical, NEVER FORCE IT!"

quote:Let this and Lorin's experience teach everyone. Do not leave you kids in the car with the car running or with the keys available. LOL When I was about 4, the parents had a Suburban... Mom was unloading groceries and I was still in the truck... Kicked it outta park and it rolled toward the house... Luckily Mom was close by and was able to get it stopped just in time. Good thing cars nowadays have brake/transmission interlocks for automatics.

I had an incident with my first car. I was due for inspection and was trying to test to see if my backup lights were working. So I put the engine on, engaged the parking brake, and shifted into reverse. Got out, saw my lgihts were on. As I went back to shift back to park, the brake snapped loose and the car started rolling backwards, right for a tree! Luckily, I got it stopped before any damage was done. I later realized all I had to do was turn it to ON without actually starting the engine. DOH!LOL! But in all seriousness, you do need to be very careful...cars can do a LOT of damage, as we all know...

When I was a kid, my neighbor just got his license and was turning the car around in their drive way. He was in reverase with the wheels turned hard right. He smashed into a tree with the left front fender, then, paniced, cranked the wheels hard LEFT and pulled forward! S C R A P E ! The look on his mom's face when she came running out was priceless! (removed)!
