Bass Without A Sub?

Post by abbotlex »

Since the Vibe is the "for everything" car, I can't put a sub box or a tube in the back. What are my options for improving the sound. Everything now is stock, no factory sub in the back. Can I install a factory sub and amp? Is it worth the hassle? That requires different trim pieces and such in the back, right?Any success with component speakers? What recommendations on models do you have? Has anyone tried single coil woofers in the rear doors and 2 or 3 way speakers in the front doors?TIA for your thoughts,

ello, Welcome to GenVibe... your new second home... Well, you could put one of the newer Alpine PDX amps under a seat, run a set of Pioneer PRS720 components from the amp, and from all that i've read, you could almost go sub-less with some sound deadening put in the doors (most just say dynamat for starters) I own a pair, but haven't gotten them installed yet... With said amp, you could easily have a simple tube or box sub, that could be taken out for whatever.. If not enough, you could do a google search for "bass shakers" which is a sub, but without a cone, and just a weight...and you attach them to the bottom of your seats... the viberation makes you "think" that there is MUCH more bass than there really is... It's kinda cool... One day i'm going to put a set in my couch...lol.. I'll get into things more tomorrow, it's late and I threw 200+ bails of hay tonight... lol... PeasAaron...

I thought this thread was about fishing.I usually go bass fishing from a boat. A submarine would be cheating like spear fishing.

The TS-C720PRS look deep. Are there any fitment issues? From what I've read from lurking around here the past few days is that the door speakers can't be very deep. Thanks for the info though!

They are 2 5/8" deep and i've never done a speaker install on my Vibe so I can't tell you, but some quick and easy spacer can help that.. I have to use almost a 1" spacer on my Subaru to get them to fit... They also come with an interesting spacer.. So, you mount the spacer to the car, the mount screws get covered by the driver, then mount the driver to the spacer.. Like i said, from what i've read, yuo could almost go subless with them and some power and a bit of deadening... (removed) in a bass shaker and you could go totaly subless.. It's a BEAUTIFULL components set to boot, and rather cheap to (~250-285$)... They ALSO make a set that is ~100$ and has most of the features of the PRS set.. just not all the bells and wistles..

I was on this e exact quest a few months ago for the very same reason. If you are looking for some boom, you'll either need to go custom or luck out and find a scrap vibe to rip the monsoon sub mountings and moldings from.If all you want to do is add some solid lows and a little kick, here is what I did: I have a JVC KD-HDR1 head ($125). This unit has Circle Surround which allows me to adjust the front and rear speakers (and sub if I had one) independently of each other. I picked up a set of Pioneer TS-G1642R coaxial speakers for the front because they had good lows, sold mids and crisp highs. I got set of 6 1/2 Insignia (Best Buy brand) speakers for the rear because they had good low-end (surprisingly good). I got everything installed rather easily. The only fabricating I had to do was drilling holes to mount the rear speakers. I set my head to send the full range to the front speakers and send the lows to the back speakers. It took about a week of tweaking the fade and the EQ but the result is a pretty good system using the available stock locations.Anyhow, good luck on your quest! Hope this info helps.

Here is another option for you, bass without a "subwoofer" It's a Tactal Transducer, or in common terms, a Bass Shaker... http://www.partsexpress.com/pe...41135

Those are both good ideas. I always wondered if just some good low performing speakers in the rear would do the trick, then keep the front speakers full range to keep the sound stage up front. I think I'll try that and then bass shakers if needed.

"some" does, but that is considered rear "fill"If you were to, say, buy a set of the Pioneer 720PRS components (again, highly regarded for the low-midbass reproduction) and amp them, you wouldn't put them in the rear right? Didn't think so... But most still like having rear speakers... No problem, run them from the HU and don't worry much about the sound they produce... The location they are in is already a "bad" sounding spot, in relation to the driver It's low in the door, blocked from the driver by the front seats... I would worry about up front... but you know, them bass shakers create the illusion that you have MUCH larger speakers that produce MUCH more bass then they really do, by simply reinforcing the "tactial" feeling you get of a sub shaking you... that's the pich...

That's what I mean. "Low performing" was the wrong term. I probably should have said "smaller range" speakers in the rear. Just for the fill. As long as the OEM speakers don't distort or create noise, they probably work fine.

what i did is installed 2 sets of 4-way's in all the doors and in the back i put a sub and a box. i have the amp connected to the box and (stupidly) don't have the box mounted. if i ever need to pull the box out i tape up the ends of the cables and stow them when i need to and put the box in the garage. one recommendation if you go this route, put a mat or something in the back so you don't scratch the liner.
None. Vibe is gone.

Thanks though..
