OT interior work, some will like it, some won't...lol... (lots of pics)

Post by Sublimewind »

Edit: more pics addedHi all,I've been working on the Subie again, I've had a little burst of motivation and am finally getting the interior put back together.... Well, the OLD RS's interior was in need of help (I retained the old interior from the car, to go in the newer one, that DIDN'T have one) it was dirty and "old" looking, and along with my audio install, I decided to do something a bit different than the "norm" (hmmm go figure, right..lol) So, in effort to help with reflections on hard surfaces down off of the interior I decided to cover my A/B/C pillars with Second Skin Overkill closed cell foam... Needs to be clean clean clean first... The rear seats aren't going to be used ever again, as far as I'm concerned, so I'm not reinstalling the seat belts back there, but I WILL need the little trim that comes out with the belt, so, I glued it in after cutting it off the actual seat belt mech... Simple spray glue is the only thing needed for this process, and I thought to take pics, but just not while I was doing the actual covering/gluing sorry... I was working against the clock and forgot to get a shot of the glued up parts... So, here is what things look like with the foam installed... Seeing as how I'm already mostly black, I've decided to change the color of the headliner and all the trim to black, it was gray... So, I bought some plastic paint (Rust-oleum for plastic) and painted all of the buttons/handles and light fixtures as well... Ok, so here is the part I'm going to get a LOT of flack on.... my choice for material for the headliner and to cover the pillars.... Wait for it...A little longer....Bam....!!!It comes from my love of the lowered truck crowd, many a mini-truck had been done in monster hair and animal prints, so I decided to do this... It serves a triaxial purpose...A. It's easy to work with, conforms well to irregular shapes and mistakes don't show (my FIRST time ever doing this BTW) B. It will help me to cut down on reflections of sound for the stereo (Remember I'm going for sound QUALITY) C. It's the softest stuff you've ever felt, think of the softest dog or cat that you have ever pet... More... Fresh pics : I had to cover the sunroof cover, I had forgot about it, so I got better pics of the wrapping process.. First: LayoutTrim:Glues: These are important, you'll want a glue that "webs" see below...Gluing: Flip the part over and lay it face down, Start with the edge, overlap half and half. This is also when the clock starts ticking... This type of glue is a contact adhesive and if you move quickly you may have time to pull up a mistake and fix it... but if you wait to long, it grabs and holds... !!! This is a closer look at a spray glue that "webs" Beware, some don't do this, I bought a NAPA glue and it was like spray paint... Not good... CAREFULLY peal the part off the fabric, and set aside, start working the glue over the whole of the fabric.. Notice the nice outline of the part, great for aligning the part when it's time to wrapGlue the part: Flip it over and use the ouline from earlier to align the part to the fabricWrap: Pull edges up and then over to get it tight. In the corners, depending on how much stretch the fabric has, you have to put little creases in it and if it works right, you'll never see them on the finished part.. push them as flat as you can.. Trim the backside: Keep a LOT of razor blades and USE A RAZOR KNIFE...!!! Trim to between 1" and 1/2" from the edge, make sure everything is good and stuck down after the trim... Trim closer to the edges if you have fabric bunched up there... Vacuum well and you're finishedOk GenVibe, I've got strong shoulders..... What do ya think??? Thanks for lookin,Aaron

In that case, how much weight can your roof hold? Haha!Edit: What about covering the entire exterior in that fur? That would be hilarious.

Workmanship looks to be top notch... as I would have expected. The fur on the other hand... not too sure on that, but I won't knock it till I see it in person. Who knows, I could be really impressed.

Wow, adventurous! And (drool...) Snap-On's! I had a lot of them, big tool chest included, but sold them all when I bought my house. Sniff. Kept the creeper and fender cover...it's at my mom's somewhere.

My GF keeps calling me weird, for taking all the pics that I do, of the process... and posting them.... Yeah, I don't know what I would do without my tools, it's odd, beacuse I used to get in trouble with dad, when I was kid, for screwing up his tool, I was always doing somehting, and leaving them out in the rain or worse, flat out losing them.. Now I understand WHY he was so darn mad...
