the thing i like most about american cars is their a/c. it's super cold compared to japanese cars. my dad's 1998 ford explorer blows out super cold air even on 90-100 degree days while my old 2000 honda accord was barely cold at full blast.anyways, since the vibe is almost the same as the matrix, do they share the same a/c? does the a/c get cold quickly on those hot summer days?also, when a/c is on is it loud from the outside? like does the radiator fan turn on and sound very loud? my current car is a 2002 maxima and when i have my a/c on it's very loud from the outside...sounds like a small plane lolwould be great to get some input from the 2009 vibe owners too since that's the one i'm going to get btw i love the vibe...i use to not like the older ones' look but now it's starting to grow on me lol but i will still try to get an 09 for the bigger engine.
every car is a bit diff. My father had an 1989 honda that the vents frosted and formed ice. The vibe I have is cold ONLY on long trips, because of the size of the car it takes quite a while for it to cool down. Other than that i just direct one of the vents directly at me.Yes you will hear the compressor turn on.. Best bet is to check out the car personally for yourself, and then make your decission.

The Vibe has the worst heater/AC system of all the cars I've owned. I figured it was because it had the same system as the Corolla and had a much larger cabin area and more glass. I had 15% tint done on my '06 Vibe and it cools much better than the '04 did.
My (moonstone) Vibe can sit in the parking lot at work and bake in 100+ degree temperatures for eight or more hours, and yet within 10 minutes of starting the engine the interior is nice and chilly.
i just test the vibe at a local dealer and the a/c was pretty good...today was only 81 or 82 degrees so wasn't as hot as last week. the car was sitting outside in the sun and was pretty hot when i sat in...got cooled in a couple minutes. seems pretty good i think. too bad i didn't take it for a longer drive...i only went around the block just to test the a/c lol
My last car was a '97 Grand Am, and it pumped out 53 degree air up until the day I traded it in, and I never had it charged once! I had a little thermometer that fit right in the vents. I'll have to do that with the Vibe too, see what it says.
My '09 GT has..... maybe..... not quite as cold air temp as my Durango & Mustang GT. But, when the fan is on high it unleashes enough BTUs to cool a 4 bedroom house. The cabin cools quickly, & I don't drive far before turning the AC down. It's supposed to have rear vents.... I've yet to find them.
My A/C on my 09's Vibe is really cold, and I don't have to wait before it cools the entire vehicule, I really like it.But I can't tell you if it's noisy from the outside.
I can measure about 42`F at the vent with the A/C blasting on a 100`F+ day.It does take a bit of time to cool down the large cabin area but the temp at the vent doesnt take that long. My comute is only 3 miles of downtown surface streets.Check the A/C Insulation Mod in the Mod list
I think AC used to blow cold on most but not any more. Most AC systems now run on very small amounts of refrigerant these days some at only a half a pound! The larger the engine, the larger the AC compressor and other components too so that also is a factor when comparing. Sitting in traffic will also not produce cold air since there is no warm air passing over the AC condenser but I am sure you have experienced this.
My '09 GT's AC works great! Gets colder much quicker than my old '05. On those 30+ days I start with a few minutes with the circulation off and then turn it on to keep the cold air inside. It also saps way less power from the 2.4L engine than the old 1.8L. The engines performance does not change all that much with the AC on or off.Not sure about the noise it makes outside, I am sure it is the typical fan cycling on and off sort of thing.
I hope it's a noticeable improvement for '09, I was never impressed with the ability of my 03's A/C to keep the car cool. Too much cabin to cool and not enough to cool it with. So far it sounds like it might be a little better...
