Alright, so I mic'd these rotors on my Vibe down and they measure .965" and they are pretty clean looking. I'm thinking of getting them turned down to clean them up instead of going new to save $20. I'll put the $20 towards better pads. Is there any reason that I cannot go with ceramic pads instead of semi-metallics? The guy at the brake shop said they could maybe clean up the rotors if they aren't too bad but I would have to go semi-metallic. Not sure why that was. The brakes did not pulse at all before so the rotors should be pretty darn flat I'm thinking. Am I getting a sales pitch to buy new rotors from him?
Unless my rotors are warped, I never get them turned. I think it just makes them thinner, and then more likely to warp. BUT, I don't know the rules for ceramic pads, but I would think it would be the same as semi-mets.
I always try and have rotors turned, before I buy new ones, it's the cheaper route.. And it gives the new pads a "proper" surface to bed to... I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but I have a post in here all about the proper proceedured used for proper seasoning and bedding of rotors/pads... It's a great read and I believe in it 100%... I had a set of KVR crossdrilled rotors last 5-6yrs for me and they weren't treated "nice" by any strech of the imagination.. I'll do ya one better.. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=28516
