I am a soon to be Vibe owner

Post by Mattsky »

I have a Vibe on order and should be getting it on June 27th. It will have the 2.4L engine, automatic transmission, preferred package and 17 inch wheels. I was disappointed with the lack of rebates. I was able to get one for just $500.00. My old car is a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville. The mileage it gets is just awful. I am way over due for a new car.

The 35mpg instead of 20mpg in the Bonneville will more than make up for any missed incentives. It's a new model and gets great mileage in the middle of the fastest rising gas prices ever, they don't need to give incentives to sell them right now. On the other hand, if you're looking for a V8 SUV...

It is going to get to the point that cars are sold like pizzas - jack up the price but always offer a coupon (rebate). Problem is that many states, like Ohio, base the sales tax on the vehicle price before the manufacturer rebates. The T&C I recently bought had $4,500 in rebates but that was equivalent to only a $4,196.25 discount due to sales tax of 303.75. If the manufacturer reduced the wholsale price of the car to the dealer by $4,500 and the dealer passed that reduction on to the buyer there would be no sales tax on that $4,500.Ohio even charges sales tax on the $250 doc fee - so you get ripped off twice there - once for the outrageous doc fee and again for the sales tax on that fee. The $250 doc fee was sanctioned by the state lawmakers in exchange for generous campaign contributions I am sure. It used to be $100. Ohio is crooked state. The Attorney General recently was forced to resign when the local newspaper uncovered his misdeeds.

Congrats for the new Vibe!!!But don't expect to do 35 MPG with the 2.4L auto. I have a 2009 2.4L manual for 2 months now and I get an average of 27-28 MPG, while driving very smoothly at 60-65 MPH, with A/C off most of the times cause there were no real heat over here so far, about 65% highway 35% city.

it's a 6 spd auto.... so it can drop into 6th gear at cruising speeds for much better fuel economy.Just like around town, I can get 23-24 mpg driving 45-55 mph avg when I have the car in 5th or 6th gears. but if I leave it in 4th or 5th, I get 18-20 mpg.

Thank you all for the welcomes. Jake New York state, where I am does the same thing, they tax the price of the car before the rebates. If I still lived in New Hampshire I would have saved over $1,500.00 because they have no sales tax. The MPG will be a big improvement. My Bonneville only gets about 17mpg. I expect the mpg on the Vibe to be in the high 20s. I have read some people claiming to get 30 or 31 mpg with the 2.4 engine.

The trouble with newly designed autos...no rebates. Plus they still have 08's on the lots that they are trying to get rid of. It would be dumb to try and sell the 09's more aggressively than the older models. But Welcome anyways!!!!!

Welcome & congrats! Mom loved her '89 Bonny and was emotional when she had to part with it (as I was with my '88 Grand Am) but what a sweet ride (they both were.) Bonny had such high mileage and still never let her down as she went to work and back and forth to the hospital to visit my dad.

I have had the car two weeks now and have 700 miles on it. Most of it came from a trip to Cape Cod for the 4th of July weekend. As I posted in another thread I got 31.7 MPG going to Cape Cod from Long Island and 29.2 MPG on the return trip. I had the AC cranked going both ways. I hit some traffic going to the Cape and had a heavier foot on the return trip. Lets see if I can post a few pictures.

It's easy. Dachshunds will do anything for food. His mastered trick is I say "BANG!" he drops on the floor on his back. For awhile, he wagged his tail too, but I said if you've been shot, your tail's not supposed to wag! He now knows that he can't wag his tail while doing this trick. And he shakes hands in English, Japanese, and Spanish LOL. A friend's got a pack of 5 that will "sing" on command. I should get this guy an agent...he really needs to bring home a paycheck!
