Do I have an engine immobilizer on my 2006 Vibe ???

Post by kentb31 »

Hi everyone,How can I tell if I have the engine immobilizer option (theft-deterrent) installed on my Vibe 2006 ?There is small LED light on my stereo that lights up, but I have followedthe instructions in the owner's manual to test it and it didn't work...Maybe I am doing something wrong to test it or I just don't have that feature on my car.Any help would be appreciated

Is it the red LED that flashes on the radio? If so it's nothing but a fake alarm that all Vibes have.

you probably dont. my 05 didnt have it so i got an aftermarket alarm and had it installed. i gained remote start with it which is nice for the winters to heat up the car or summer if you have the AC on and turned up. i got a viper alarm and i've not had any issues with it

One of the keys somehow got deprogrammed. The car would start run for about 3 seconds and then shut off.

There will be a panel marked Security with a red LED to the left of the steering wheel and below the interior light dimmer switch. It's next to the hatch window release button and the coin holder. When activated the LED flashes. If you don't see it there, then you don't have the factory system.Pages 2.13-15 in th OM explains how it works. It says nothing about disabling the engine start. It sounds an alarm (horn beeps) under various circumstances like forced entry, broken windows and battery disconnect, etc.Hope this helps.
