Have a vacuum leak

Post by Petrucci914 »

Hey everyone,I have a vacuum leak somewhere. I hear a whistling sound when first giving it gas and my idle is very poor. I've checked every hose that I can see and haven't seen any cracks or anything. I noticed some moisture where the dipstick for the engine is......maybe the supercharger isn't sealed all the way? I'm not sure. Any hints on finding a vacuum leak? This may be responsible for lots of my issues and why I'm not hitting full boost.

One method is to spray a "carb cleaner: around the engine/hoses. When it gets sucked into the engine via the vacuum leak, the engine rpms should change to let you know that you are in the correct area to look closer.

I don't know if I can do that, I'm supercharged - not supposed to spray carb cleaner or anything in/around the throttle body while running. Any other ideas? I just know this is the source of my problems......maybe the SC'er isnt bolted on tight enough.......who knows.

Only way I've found vacuum leaks before is using the old stethoscope. But, admittedly, I have only had one real hard to find leak.

Did you use the copper stuff when you put on your s/c.(You sprayed both sides right)You can also check your TB gasket.Other wise you'll have to listen for leaks while raising rpms.

Ya, I used the copper spray-a-gasket. After I got my motor mount inserts installed it idled pretty bad and then I took off the TB and cleaned the IACV and it was good for a while. Now it's back. I'll be reinstalling the new TB this weekend and go from there. I know a shop in GB that uses the smoke machine for vacuum leaks, so I guess I'll go from there.
