Clay bars

Post by vhoward1122 »

Hi,I just bought a Meguiars smooth surface clay kit for $14.28 and Meguiars gold class liquid wax for $9.96 from walmart. The clay kit comes with two clay bars, a bottle of quick detailer and a small bottle of cleaner wax. The directions say to wash and dry the car, then spray the surface with the quickdetailer, then rub with the clay bar after kneading it to make it more pliable. Do a small section at a time and dry with the microfiber cloth that also came in the kit.Ok, that sounds simple enough, but do you really have to use the quick detailer with the clay bar? Or can you just use a spray bottle of water?Vance

Clay bars are the way to go... they take some time if you do it right, but it's all worth it when you are done. I've used them before and I would swear by them... use the detailer with the bar and not water, you will get MUCH better results.

I might have to check out that clay bar kit from wally world... I think that's the same price as the one I got from AutoZone last year and it only had one bar with it.We've got two cars here that seriously need a good claybarin'.

Yep, we still just have Kari's Vibe. Although the dude at the Pontiac dealer down the street keeps trying to sell me a new Vibe every time I go in there. I happened to run into him when I was getting the oil changed in her car, I went to school with this guy and hadn't seen him in like 12 years, now he works sales there. Trade me even and we'll talk. If you run out of lube, you can always use a small amount of car soap dilluted in water in a spray bottle. It's not as slick, but it works fairly well.

Those bottles get you pretty far. I use the $10 Clay Magic kit from AutoZone. Bar kits are pretty much standard across the board. I get usually 2-3 cars out of a kit.

That Clay Magic one is the kind I had last time. I must have been using too much lube... god that sounds perverted. I only did the hood/roof/trunk on my Accent which isn't much real estate at all, and ran out of spray 3/4 of the way through clay baring the Vibe. Maybe I should use lube more sparingly. (removed)
