Thule 965 Backpack Bike Rack Won't Fit Any Adapters?

Hi,I bought an 05 Vibe recently. I have a Class I drawtite on the car and that's not strong enough for my receiver bike rack. I also have a Thule 965 Backpack rack for the back hatch and much to my dismay the top of the rear hatch on the Vibe extends too far forward to for the length of the "steel straps" I called Thule and they basically said buy a new rack. Anyone have a mod for this rack to fit on the Vibe?
