New Vibe owner in moose country who'd like a little better view of the sides of road than my Vibe provides.Something like the KC HiLites 35 Series Wide Beam Driving Lights System sounds like it'd do the trick. I have no experience with adding lights (or anything) to vehicles, and am more than a little retarded in general, so I'd appreciate some help. How difficult is it to add lights like these (i.e., can I do it myself)? Can anyone commend these lights in particular (or recommend another system)? Are there any legal issues associated with adding lights to your vehicle like this? And if I'm leaving out anything else important, please let me know. Thanks!
I'm not sure about your state, but in Texas, a vehicle may have up to four forward-facing white lights on at any given time. On my old truck, I had either low beams + fog lights or high beams + driving lights. Installation of aftermarket light kits is relatively simple (all the kits I've seen are more or less the same in terms of installation). They generally come with a relay you wire to the battery, and a switch you mount somewhere inside the cabin of the vehicle that taps into an existing 12V power source. On a vehicle like the Vibe, your biggest challenge is going to be finding a place to mount them. The housing of some lights can get very warm when they've been on for extended periods, so you have to be careful about the plastic pieces around them (including the ones that they're screwed in to). You'll want to make sure that there is enough of an air gap around the lights themselves allow for heat to dissipates without doing any damage.
