my friend has a 72 chevelle. great condition. has 14 inch classic rims he wants to put on it. need help with tires. whats on the rims: front- bias ply F-70 best i can tell the rim is 14x6 seems the tires are about 6" tread area and about 5 1/2" tall ( from rim to tread) rear- bias ply L-60 best i can tell rim is a 14x9. seems tires are about 9 1/2" tread and about 5 1/2" tall (from rim to tread) alright thats about all i know i know one of yall will be able to help us (i say us bc once on the road i will be able to drive some) and let it begin!!!
To my knowledge the Chevelle never came with staggered tire size. The metric size that is for the factory vehicle is 215 75 R14. If you are looking for a good tire for the car then alot Muscle Car fans use the BF Goodrich Radial T/As. Since the 215s are about 8.3" they should work. The only thing that I cannot remember is if the rims of the Chevelle are 6" wide or 8" wide. With two different size rims he may have got them off of a Camaro or a Corvette.
If God didn’t want us to eat meat, why did he make the cow so slow? (Ever eaten a cheetah-burger? Nope. And you never will.)
yeah these aren't the oe rims they are classic mags i think. i found some more info on the tires (from cokertire.com)::::: front tire diameter-26.2 want somthing meaty for the back
Okay so the factory rims is 14x6. If he wants the classic tire look then Coker yes. If look is not a concern then I like the Radial T/As. They have served me will on a few vehicles since the Vibe is the newest car I have ever owned by about 17 years I prefer them on my old stuff. I think that you can squeeze 255s in the back but for 14" rims they are going to be trouble to find. Stepping up to a 235 is probably the limit available for the 14" rim. If you want it noticeable for the front to rear stagger then a 205 or the stock 215 will be necessary.

It should work just the clearance maybe an issue and you may have to roll the lip of the wheel well into the fender. Have you test fit the tires onto the car?I was looking at 255 50 R15s for mine in the rear and 225 60 R15 in the front. The rear is definately going to look good for the rear but maybe a lower aspect ratio like a 50 for the rear would help balance the car a little more unless you like the rear of the car up a little in the air compared to the front. The rear would put the rear bumper about 2 in higher in the rear.

That's just me, classics with bigger billets look sooooooo hot, not nice on the wallet though.. Pics of the car please?? Lets see if this works...

I personally do not like those rims for the Chevelle. I think that they would look better on a fifties car or especially a fifties truck maybe it is just the centre cap. If you get a chance to find the Corvette Rallies they do look good on the Chevelles.Just remember opinions are like (removed) holes -- everyone has one and alot of them stink. The only thing that matters is if you like them.
