I have been wavering between a vibe and a Scion xb (1st gen on both)And almost bought it last week at auction. But didn't have my check card bumped up high enough to cover it.even though I won the bidding the dealer wanted more than I had available on the card at that time.long story short it was supposed to go back up tonight but I called them and discussed a minor accident that spooked me a bit (police report says an ex girlfriend roughed up the drivers side which has been repaired) Which surprisingly I missed on my own look through. But they decided that they would cut it loose to me for $9500 person to person instead of us having a middle man. saving me like 400 ish It is an 05 with 16500ish miles. and has everything but a sunroof if memory serves. So unless the dealer I am taking it to for an inspection finds something like a bent frame, or some other extreme deal breaker type issue I will probably get it. It basically does everything I have been wanting in a car, I was kind of turned off from them a few years ago but the more I look and have driven them the more they have grown on me. I was thinking of possibly buying a new car, but I really don't want a payment, and with the miles its practically new so , hopefully....
My wife really likes the 1st Gen Xb's, and after I got the vibe she really likes the vibe... She thinks the vibe is better for somethings: MPG, rear storage, general aesthetics of the interior...but she does like the body style of the Xb...If I had my choice of 2 equally equipped cars Xb or Vibe I think I would have to give the Vibe a little bit of the edge. not b/c of this site, not b/c either you love or hate the Xb, they both have 1.8, they both have great head room, the vibe get's better MPG, and I swear that you would be safer in it in a accident... (just my 2 cents)
Those two are what my final choices were before getting '05 Vibe. My son had an Xb for 100,000 miles but didn't like being so underpowered and didn't like the lack of comfort on long trips. I found the Vibe had most everything offered by Xb and then some. Couldn't be happier with my final choice.l
well the inspection came back with flying colors I even Got to look at the brakes and undercarriage while it was on the lift.So far its great, I did notice that the rubber seam running from the front windshield had come loose before the inspection , I have also noticed that the rear view mirror is wobbly, the biggest thing though is the drivers door sounds empty and hollow and I wonder if when they replaced the window if they did not also replace the sound dampening material as well, (could be bondo also as it is definitely the original door)I do have another issue. it is small yet huge, Keys. The dealer wanted $25 bucks for a key. I had 5 made at walmart I dont know what I was thinking as I have had this happen before, Axxess keyc absolutely suck, and they have almost completely cornered the market, as Home depot was also using a crappy axxess key cutter. Anyone know of a place where I can get a decent key cut that does not use axxess machinery? Ace hardware used to hand cut them, but even they are using these key cutter kits (though I think a competitor).but so far its great I am just exhausted, Ill try and take some pics after I catch a cat nap.

I like them both the xb in theory is my dream car. But the engine is smaller, and the cargo room is tiny. I just have a thing for japanese designed cars.the xb has a 1.5 vs the vibes 1.8 and that was wha tsealed the deal, I drove an Xb at carmax for about 15 minutes and it felt underpowered, but it had one of those "ricer" exhaust on it so I thought it migh be sapping the power, I then drove a vibe for less than 5 minutes and the salesperson had to take me back because she had her appointment come in early, but in literally a trip around the block I could tell I liked the vibe better. But I later drove a Toyota echo from an individual and it felt much more powerful, So I don't know why the xb felt so sluggish.(I cant figure out how to quote post in this forum)
Is the xb uncomfortable on long trips?just Curious And yes power became an issue especially since the XB doesn't get echo milage.Plus I keep thinking about trying to track down a Scamp, or casita that weighs about a thousand since I can now tow 1500 lbs

I'm gonna check at another pontiac dealer tomorrow when I go pay the tax on it, I can tolerate 12 bucks I don't like It, but thats what I paid on my Cr-v. But $25 and if I could get someone to cut one manually for a couple of bucks is hard to swallow, just to get a pontiac insignia, not to mention my Cr-v keys weren't cut much better than the aftermarket.
Yes the longer Ihave it the more I like, I cant get over having a vehicle that pulls Like it does I have been having to force myself to not mash on the gas, as it has a bit of a kick, and I have been driving a v6 f-150, but it does nearly have 200k on it as well, I wont know what to do with the mpg though I have been getting 12, does this thing really get up to 30 hwy?oh yeah any recommendations on the maintenance , I am like 16550k or so, but it has sat for a while at some point it went from 14,139 on 04/22/2005 when it had the hit and run , to 16,531 on the 11th at the auction, the shop acted like it should be fine, but then he did say something about the seals drying out possibly.Any idea if I could find out if it has ABS or any other non blatant options? other than Iam going to check the lights at startup (been leafing through the manual) I thought the headlights were broke when I was trying to switch between running lights and night lights (parents have a highlander) but lol its got a sensor. I still am in shock this is so sudden I have been looking for several months now patiently,(but beginning to be impatiently) and its the first vehicle I have had in 3 years other than borrowing one. (disabled)
Definitely change the oil and the coolant. Check other fluids.Yes, it should get 30 hwy. I used to get 30-32 in my GT driving LA to Phoenix, averaging 75+ mph.

Well I dug up most of the codes and so far I haven't found much, that I didn't already expect.I did get the tag today, so other than waiting on them to send my title I am set. Other than mods. and maintenance.I have one of the crap rock hard armrest, Am I going to have to hit the junkyard to find one of the thicker padded ones? or can I order one somewhere, (for hopefully less than the $300 the dealer quoted me on a 03-04, plus an additional $700 for that console)Wouldn't mind a trailer hitch but then I would have to start hunting a camper too, and I am too broke for that, but I definitely want to start a few things like oil change, as well as cleaning up the interior and deodorize, or steam the interior.

It was the first long highway trip I have been on since purchasing the car. the great mpg is probably my favorite thing about the car!
I gotta do some searching on things like wax,oil filters, and oilfor that matter, and cleaning stuff.oh yeah moonstone (i think, its metallic charcoal) touch uppaint
im not 100% on this but your trying to get a key cut it wont work on the ign. im pretty sure they have a chip in them. you must go through a dealer. $25 ain't bad. a guy i know has a lexus with the key and fob all in one. the dealer wants $250 i think it was!!!

I consistently get 30 city and 35+ highway. Have a trusted mechanic check out everything. Change the oil, oil filter, engine air filter, and the cabin filter, and check the battery. If you have ABS there should be a light in the Tach when you turn on the ignition that says ABS for a brief time. Also, ABS would have a distribution box with six tubes coming out of it under the hood to the left side.Enjoy your ride!
