2005 Vibe engine hesitatation when accelerating

Post by ttcnal »

A week ago I started driving home from work and my 2005 vibe (base model manual 61,000 mi) would hesitate/pulse as I accelerated. Do not notice as much at steady driving speed. The cel came on and diagnostics said it was the O2 sensor downstream of the converter. Replaced the o2 sensor and it started doing the same thing almost right away. Cel is back on. Is this a converter issue and not the o2 sensor? Is there a test for the converter? Any other ideas?

Welcome to GenVibe! It may very well be a bad cat at 61,000 miles. Try bangin on the converter if it rattles or you hear something moving around, then your cat is bad. There really isn't ant other tests, short of having it removed to check it visually.

I don't have the new code yet. The cel does not flash. I will try to bang on the converter and see. The converter I believe is under warrenty until 80K. Does that need to be done by a dealer? Thanks

Surging on accel.CELCheck codes, but mine was left bank O2 sensor, same symptoms.Codes will pinpoint which one, but there's more than 1 O2 sensor.Must be common because dealer was out, and part was backordered.
