Be carefull with airbag's and thier wires.

Post by Lancer »

We took out an air bag, I believe from a Bonneville, and hooked it up and fired it off. It was pretty impressive. It would have gone a few hundred feet if we'd put it rightside up!Airbags detonate with 1200lbs. of force @ 230mph. So don't mess with the yellow wire's.[Sorry, but you'll have to get to the last page in my album to get to the clip. If there's a better way to post movie clips here @ GenVibe please let me know.]http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4290609189

See!!!!!! This is a classic reason why I do not like airbags and posted a thread on how I could disconnect them and caught nothing but flack from others on the websight. Well Guess What------I have now totally disabled them and it was MY choice -----so PLEASE people --NO REBUTTLE COMMENTS--It is my decision.BTW-I will not reveal how I did this --so PLEASE do not ask. Airbags should be a option not standard it should be up to each person if they want airbags you here people being injured in accidents from airbags where if they didn't have airbags theywould be fine plus it would make cars cheaper

And its fine for each person to make a personal selection on how to run their lives. But keep in mind the effects injuries and deaths have on the economy as a whole, not just the tragic effects on those directly effected. (soap box put away now).

Hey listen. When I crashed my sunfire, the airbags saved my life. I'm not gonna tell y'all that you should or should not keep them on. I'm just saying, had the airbags not gone off, I would've gone THROUGH the windshield. Because they did, i walked away with only minor burns on my wrists, which disappeared after a couple days. Small price to pay to save my life...I've heard of more people being injured by first generation airbags than next-gen airbags...they're better and safer now. As long as you don't mess with them, that is.....Ok, I just put away my soapbox too.

Airbags are a Supplemental Restraint System (hence the name SRS). That means that are not to be the primary source of protecting you. That is the job of the seat belt. If you are wearing your seatbelt properly, the chances of an airbag seriously injuring you are very low.

I would buy this whole arguement about how you can do whatever you want with airbags if you didn't have the chance to collect on insurance. Basically, if you or a passenger dies due to not having an airbag then my dollars shouldn't go to your family. There are always stories of someone being hurt by a safety device but the benefits out weigh them by a large percentage. Unfortunately, one of our members had his hand on the horn when he hit a deer, but that is not the typical situation. Like Nova said, if you are wearing a seatbelt, then you are at very very low odds of being injured due to the airbag.
