My old 1994 Saturn SL1

Post by Whelan »

Was flippin through some photos doing a little cleaning of my picturetrail account and came across my old ride. Before my Matrix, and Civic I had this baby. Yes it was plum, but I had a few thousand invested in it at the time. Lots, and lots, and lots of custom stuff made by myself since they did not really have an aftermarket for Saturns other than SPS (Saturn Performance Specialists) out of Ohio. As I said, most of the work done was custom, such as the rear sidemarkers. They didn't make clear ones for the rear, just the front. So I got another set of fronts, cut them to fit, siliconed the end and epoxy'd it for weathering, then did the LED wiring so that both front and rears lit up and the fronts flashed when turning. They also did not make an intake for this car, so I got one for a later model, and with a throttle body adapter from an older Cavalier, it fit perfectly. Enjoy!Exterior:-9006 Naxos Xenon Blue low beams.-Pilot Driving Lamps.-Super Street Series 3157 parking lamps.-Kool Glo Strobes. Looks very clean! How did it sound with the intake & exhaust? Same color as my '93 SC2.

Looks good and great ideas and mods! I also know what you went through! My first car was a 1987 two tone Blk & Silver Cavalier RS 2.0L. I had to beg, borrow and steal parts to find for it since basically no after-market companies made parts for American 4 cylinders. Some companies had gotten started with Hondas, others VW but far and few. Things I did for it from memory:1992 Sunbird Rear Spoiler1989 Z24 Arm Rest1994 Z24 upper front sway bar from GM1994 Z24 shifter handleFound the interior floor lamps that were an option then but the sockets and harnesses were taped up into a wire loom. Found them by accident so I untaped them, plugged them into the panel, added bulbs and both worked as should. I also did this to my folks 1988 Corsica! Pretty cool find for sure! Under drive alternator pulleyDynaMax mufflerPoly end link stabilizer bar bushingsAC Rapid Fire plugsHome made Ram Air since K&N did not make even a filter for it due to GM used my design intake for 2 or 3 years and than switched to another. My year got lost in the cracks!1987 Z24 grill and headlamp bezels1984 Camaro cassette radio (plug & play)Added larger GM rear speakers from salvage yard again. Larger 6X9's...Added carpeted trunk from a 1990's Grand Am1987 Cavalier junk yard find in dash cassette holder1980's Ford Escort black plastic lug nut covers since the black painted I had always lost their paint from tire rotations. I added delayed windshield wipers. Just needed the switch and motor! Plug and play!I also added a glove box switch and rear actuator for an electric trunk release. All GM parts from the junk yard I used to go to many times! Detailed engine bay with red, black and silver. There may be more, I had the car for 11 years (3 sets of fog lamps) and took two trophies with it. Both in the stock and original class, one was at a Super Chevy Show. Just like this one but mine was a 2 door and I had the steel rally rims.http://cgi.ebay.com/1987-Chevr...wItemAnyway, nice to remember our cars!

Ha sounds nice, I actually liked having to find/make parts and accessories work and fit. Was more of a challenge. The Civic was all bolt on for me.With the short shifter, polymer panels that saved good weight, and the light alloys I put on, I had beaten a newer Celica GT (not GTS), and a few Civic EXs. The 1.5 and 1.6s. Not in top speed though just light to light. I had a 5 speed MP2 tranny with short gear ratios and redline at 5500.

I had the same exact car right down to the paint...except no mods. Good car too bad the engine went at 225K Kms. Replaced it with the Vibe though.
