2003 base vibe . replacing serp belt tensioner tommorrow. presently have noise when putting car into drive with cold engine. mechanic looked at it and said he could see the tensioner struggling. bought 1zz tensioner at advance auto parts,best price. will update later.

I replaced mine 2 weekends ago.Sounded like a diesel, with all that rattling.Just be careful when you jack up the engine,that you don't go too high.The sweet sound of a quiet tensioner.

my good shady tree mechanic replaced the tensioner today.disconnected the top motor mount and used a small block of wood under the engine to jack it up just high enough to be able to pull the bolt out. he drew a diagram of the serp belt routing to be sure. mission accomplished ! thanks to all you Generation Vibe guys for the good advice always !
