They finally posted up the vids from Kendrick's 04 WRX crash at Subiefest 06, Nov 18, 2006. I flew down to visit my parents over that weekend and took my father and my best friend with me. Ken Block was there signing autographs. We got there right before the crash, had no clue what was going on, other than a ton of ambulances and medivac copters flying in. Figured it must have been a nasty one! I only got to see a few pictures of the car, aftermath, and we took a few pics of the hood of the car since it was hanging up at PDX Tuning's shop last May when Mav and I drove down. The driver flipped the car 7 times and walked away with a broken pinky. Goes to show how safe these cars really are. http://www.drivingsports.com/b....html
it wasn't just the seat belt, it has everything to do with the strength of the A, B and C pillars of the car. it flipped 7 times, doing 125 mph. He walked off with a broken pinky and a bruised up arm.
Nasty crash no doubt! Looked like a bad one...Did you ever find out what exactly happened? A tire blow? And, did this car have a roll cage and a five point harness?
it says in the article it was uncaged. he may have had a harness, who knows? had it not been for a seatbelt, he definitely would have been thrown from the car.

WOW..... I read about that in the mags, but WOW, to see it is just.... incredible... Oh and YES, he was harnessed in... He would have been ejected for sure, had he not been... WoW.... not but a broken PINKY, he could have lost BOTH of his arms, as it mentions him being knocked out and they actualy looked at the vid in slow-mo and his HEAD AND ARMS were OUT of the window at one point, only to come back in at the last second...!!!!!!Lucky Lucky man..... A note on the safety aspect of Subarus, I've been on NASIOC for ~7 YEARs and have seen many many pics of wrecked Subarus..... 99% of them the occupents either walked away or survived... 99% of them were NOt caged either..

Had a helmet on too of course. I would drive with a helmet all the time in life if it were the norm.
strapped in with a helmet yes because he was on a race course doing a hot time lap. helmet is required or they would not have let him race to begin with. He is VERY lucky indeed. None of the tires blew but if I remember correctly from an old article, when he came around the corner and let off the gas, the car threw itself a bit to the right. If that hill had not been there, he would have just skidded off course.

oh i'm sure he was harnassed in. I have a harness I use when we race, however, no road courses up here. still.... scary! I saw the pics of the car afterwards, I know there was video, but nothing they were willing to show public. Of course, when we got home, my dad tells my mom there was a bad accident so she doesn't want me racing anymore. and yes, I believe when he came around that corner, he got caught up on the grass and it just drew him right into that hill.
It looks to me as if he came out of the right hander, on that slight roll and lifted, getting the rear really light and then it was all over from there... I had a friend from Mass. come out to VT when I lived there just for a driving day, who did the same thing, but only at about 35.... I was directly behind him and got to see it all unfold... No injuries, heck, he just kissed a guardrail, but it still shifted the front of his Subie and cost over 4500 to get fixed... He did the same thing though, we were going over a small hill, on a left hander, and he lifted and even lightly tapped the brakes right ar the apex of both the corner AND the hill.... I just started saying to myself NO NO NO.... it was to late... I had it on tape at one point(I had the camera in the car for the drive), but it's been long lost...
