defrost and ac turn on for remote starter

Post by raddorisio »

I am installing a remote starter in my car. There are 2 additional outputs that can be used for accessories.I want to have the option to activate the ac switch with one output and the defroster with the other. 1 output is transistorized low current output, 300 ma, latches to gound2nd output is a 300 mA pulsed output. My question is can this be done? What is the easiest way? and Do I need to use relays? The idea being, that after I start the car it would be nice to turn on the defroster if it should be turned on or in the summer to turn on the ACany help would be apprecitated

You're probably going to be limited to just turning the A/C controls as desired before exiting the car. The defrost option can't be done electronically - the airflow directing is all done by old school cables, nothing electronic about it that you could manipulate. Unless you hook up a motor to the cable somewhere that will move it to the defrost position. The A/C switch part may be doable though. Welcome aboard, by the way.

The AC is a switch as well as the rear defroster. I think it can be done.Leaving the contols where they are does take care of the heat as it could be set to blow air on front windshield and will do that as soon as the car is turned on.Still end up with my problem to turn on the rear defroster and the AC switch. Leaving the controls to blow cool air does nothing much until the switch it pushed to turn on the AC compressor.thanksPS this is a great forum have learned lots from the great bunch of folks here

I would assume by using a relay this should be easily achievable. the only down side is you would only beable to use the latched output for one or the other. For the pulsed output you would have to buy a latching relay. The Pulsed output is only on as long as you hold the button down. Ill look around to see if I can find some diagrams for ya. I am assuming you want to use the rear defrost and A/C switchAron

Thanks Aron,From what I understand is that in the vibe the compressor for AC is actually turned on when you select the defrost which is something to do to help reduce fog up in the car. You do not see the light on the defroster switch.I tried to test it out however since it is cold outside hard to be sure. Seems that the air does indeed get cooler when you turn on the defroster as well. So I may be in luck..Looking forward to see the digrams. Also since the latched output is limited to 300mA I wanted to be safe and probably isolate it by using a relay so that I do not damage the remote start unit.Should have the install mostly done before the new year. By mostly probably all in except for the final items (defrost and AC wiring so that the switches can be activated)thanks in advance

Correction on my comment, when you turn on the defrost you do not see the AC light come on. Reality is that it does from what I am told
