Anyone installed the GM iPod Interface for Factory Radio from Peripheral Electronics?

Post by netwookiee »

I just picked this up at Best Buy for $99. I have not installed it yet and was wondering if anyone here has? If you have, how well does it work? It controls some of the ipods functions from the radio like skipping thru tracks.I have a 2004 Vibe and I hope to have time to install this Saturday. I'm just sick of all the FM transmitters. They just don't work well. And I like my factory radio.Anyway, please let me know if you have used this product.Manufacturer's info (not much):http://www.isimplesolutions.co...ID=11Best Buy info: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...56033

I did a couple weeks ago. i like it, only thing that bugs me is if you leave the ipod/iphone plugged in even if the car is off it still charges it. im not looking to drain my battery! so i just unplug the iphone/ipod when i turn my car off. The seak (up/down) buttons on the head unit change songs forward and backward which is nice and i havent had a too quiet issue at all yet. i got mine used from a friend for 75 so im happy. install was no biggie, just put the yellow 12v constant to the blue/white on the headunit harness and the black (ground) i grounded to the back of the head unit.

Thanks for the info, northvibe.I pulled my radio today at lunch just to get a look at what all is involved. Fairly easy. However, I put my radio back in and now the display on the radio does not work. What gives!? What did I do wrong here? help.

I checked the harness last night. It was plugged all the way in. I even unplugged it and plugged it back in just to make sure. There was only one harness on the back of the radio, so I guess that's the one you are talking about.EDIT: Just found this thread here: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=27542Sounds like the bulb went out. Oh well... I think I'll do an ebay search for replacement.

did all your bulbs go out? I have just 1 out on the left side of the read out. It would seem odd that you pulled your HU out and all the bulbs would go out... but if you do that you should unplug the negative from the battery terminal so there should be no power going to the HU. shocking yourself or other electrical parts may hurt :s

Well, what I am getting the "half screen" look on the lcd. I talked to a dealer and they told me that the lcd's on those radios are rather sensitive and have been known to mess up with just the slightest pressure or jarring. He said it could be the ribbon cable that connects it to the board might have gotten pinch or knocked loose somehow.Either way, it no worky and it will cost more to repair than it would to replace. So, I guess after Christmas I am going shopping for a new iPod-compatible radio. I'm guessing the factory unit is a 2-din radio. I really would like to get something like that rather than have to install a kit to make a smaller 1-din unit fit.Anyway, that's the deal. I guess I need to ask Santa for a new radio and maybe a new iPod as well. ;-)

there is a thread floating around about soldering new bulbs in the headunit..thats what i gotta do sometime. cost a couple bucks for little bulbs and thats it, if you know how to solder and feel comfortable taking apart the unit.otherwise a new deck would be good, then its easy to plug in the front to any audio device.
