CV joint...crapped out in Grand Rapids on our way back to Detroit after the TSO concert. Most god-awful noises ever from under a car I have ever heard. Literally though we were dragging the tranny, or possibly the whole engine.Topic from the summer: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=29486A friend of mine suggested CV joint too, but I ended up taking it to the shop and they didn't find anything. Hmmph.

Well, ended up being the whole right front axle.Total including the tow was under $500. Though add on taxi, rental car, and gas and that's quite a bit more.Hopefully nothing else is damaged too much from this, but time will tell.

So all that mess from an axle shaft, did it go completely without warning?? It must have....I know on my brothers Subaru we just replaced a Half shaft that you could SEE the CV bearings and you could hear it making noise as it was out of balence.. It was a rather simple fix, but if you don't do that kind of work, I guess you gotta pay someone for it... All in all, I thing we spent 60$ to replace this one on the Subie, but it's also a 97' and not a VIbe.... Glad to hear you got it fixed... makes me wonder the mode of failure on your though...
