Need help with a serious problem.....

Post by CountryVibe »

I have always gotten good advice from everyone on this forum, and I am hoping you can help me out with this problem. Here is the DealI have had my Vibe less then a year Everything was great for the first 2 months after that things seem to go down hill starting with the faulty clutch shattered at 9k roughly, they replaced it, after that though, I started to have more transmission problems for the next 4 months my Vibe was in the dealership 5 times with gear problems they finally just replaced the whole thing. Every thing seemed fine after that. Just after it hit 40k the differential shattered and ripped though the transmission. This was in late August 2 weeks after that, the new transmission I just got for it, locked up and ripped off the transmission mounts. Because it ripped off the transmission mounts, they would not warranty it because it cracked the case even I could prove it locked up. So I went to the different shop and got other transmission was in the shop 3 weeks because the mailed my new transmission some where and lost it. When it finally got in I had it back for 1 week when it started leaking, found out the case was warped. Went though other bs speech about how it was not their fault. So I had a friend get me other transmission was in the shop 4 weeks because they ripped one of the CV seals, then they forgot to order the new seals. The finally ordered them and got the wrong ones. I got it back the day after thanksgiving. Yesterday I was at work and walk out to see a big puddle of gear oil under the car the transmission is leaking. I call the shop and finally get a hold of the owner this morning and he tells me if it’s leaking that voids the warranty on the transmission . I have spent 3000+ in the last 3 months in transmissions.None of the times the transmission broke I was street racing, at the drag strip or autocrossing.I can’t get any thing though the lemon law because the way the AL laws are and the way I bought it at the dealershipI am at a point where I just can’t trust the car any more and I have to have a reliable car for my work and to get to school because I leave in the country. I have been over paying on the payment to get the car paid off quick as I can but only having it less then a year I still owe a lot more then its worth. I still over 17k on the car and I think I should get 10k for trade in > so that would leave me way upside down on the car. My question is. Has anyone had to get other car and you where really upside on the one you where trading in and What should I do to get other loan on a different car with the high amount I oweThe car I am thinking about getting is between 22-26k my mom said she would help when the co-signing but by savings is almost 0 because of the money I have poured in the to car over the last 3 months, so I really don’t have any thing for a down payment. Sorry its kinda long, thank for all your help in advance

If in can understand what your saying... **shoots your english teacher** You want to get rid of your vibe but you will still owe about 7grand after you trade it in if you get what you think it's worth on trade. Your looking at buying yet another new car between 22-26thousand.You want advice on what to do?Sell your vibe and get a beater for a year or two... do not buy another new car. By getting a beater you will be able to put all your extra cash twards paying off the loan that would still be outstanding on the vibe and have a car that you owe nothing on. If you get another new car you now will be paying DOUBLE what you are currently paying now. Yep, you will have two car payments. The dealership could "roll" your outstanding bill from the vibe into the new car and extend the loan out a few more years but you will have a hard time paying a monthly payment on a loan that could be as high as 32-33thousand dollars for as long as 8-10 YEARS.Talk with the dealership's used car department about what car they can give you as in even swap to pay off most of what you owe on the vibe leaving as little as possible left on the current loan.I have had family members in your situation and attempted to do what your suggesting but ended up getting the new car repoed and in turn ruined their credit. NOT to mention if you can't pay the loan they will come after your mother because she is the co-signer. So her credit rating will suffer as well because of your car issues. It's sad to see a vibe in such bad shape. But, sounds like your at your wits end with it and need to dump it in order to get some sanity back.

+1 to what Keith said. There's nothing worse than a trade-in resulting in negative equity. Especially if someone else is co-signing (all credit from that loan, good or bad will reflect on your mom's rating, not yours, even though your name is on it too.)Another alternative to buying a cheap used car (can run into problems there too if you get another lemon) would be to buy a parts vibe for cheap and strip it. Seems like your car is an exception...

I'd get it fixed and then drive it gently ...or trade it in on a new base automatic Corolla and drive that gently for a while....good luck

I have no advice, other than if you do get the vibe repaired, get it fixed at some place that offers a warranty on their parts and labor. I had a tranny fail, and the one i put in had a 101 day warranty, which was lucky since it failed in that time and I got a replacemnt free.

Fight this. Get a lawyer and get an end-to-end repair, period! Get them to write a well worded letter stating you had "made payment in good faith" and demand "a resonable expectation of services and/or product." Then wait a week and follow-up with a suggestion you will pay for some of the costs, say 33 percent. Whatever.Don't lose more money or equity. You paid good money so you should expect good results.Good luck

I have a back up car to use when the Vibe is down, but's it's not in the best shape to be driving it 200+ miles a day.

Remeinds me of an old line from a Kenny Rogers song...."You gotta know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em, know when to walk away and know when to RUN..."I think that is very fitting right now... trade that sucker in on a different one... NOW...

I second the notion that you should not get a NEW car. Try your best to drive a "beater" for a year or two until you can "reset".You literally can't be worse off with an older used car than you already are with the Vibe, but you can be significantly worse off with a new car and a rolled loan. Also, talk to your insurance guy. Sometimes, they can handle mechanical failure as an insurance claim. Then, most insurances will warranty the work for 12 months...that way if it continues to give you problem in the next year you can work that. While an insurance claim may affect your insurability, believe me a credit crunch will also hurt it as more insurance agencies lean on your credit score for how insurable you are.

Yeah, don't buy a NEW car. Bad idea if you can't pay cash, plus the biggest hit in depreciation is always from the first owner.Check out some used cars, find one for cheap and check the CARFAX.

Just piping in with good luck, and maybe try a free consult with a lawyer to see what they would suggest, bring in maybe not all the paperwork, but at least a pretty detailed timeline with some notes for him/her to look at.A *friendly* call from a lawyer sometimes helps things move along.Definitely not another new car for sure though.
