challenger priceing

Post by b train »

The Dodge Challenger SRT8 will start at $37,995 and dealers are going to start taking orders on December 3rd (next week). The initial Challengers are all going to be the SRT8 models with the 6.1L HEMI V8. Initially the car will also only be offered in three colors: black, silver and HEMI orange. All of the models will feature dual carbon fiber hood stripes. The Challenger is going to be available with either a five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual, although there have been rumors that buyers will have to wait for the 09' model to get the manual transmission.

man that's a beautiful car.but i knew they weren't going to be offered anywhere near the price point of the mustang, which, lets face it, started the whole retro design...

VW's "new" Beetle came out a couple years before the PT Cruiser, but I'd blame the return of Challenger, Camaro, etc on the Mustang, as the first of the retro gas guzzling US sports carsas for the challenger, I'd like one in black please. However, ain't gonna happen at $38K

The pricing seems pretty decent. 425 hp for $38K isn't bad. The '08 Corvettes have 430 hp for about $39K. (I'm not trying to compare the two cars capabilities, just their hp and pricing.) It was my understanding they wouldn't have the 6M until later, which in my opinion stinks. I don't think the G8 has the manual available at launch either. What's the deal?

The Corvettes start at $46k + ttl, so this one starts $8k less. I'm sure Dodge's target competition is not the Vette, but the upcoming Camara.

Camaro will be priced alongside the Mustang, maybe slightly more expensive, but not by much. One of Dodge's challenges was that it could not keep the cost on the car low enough to compete with even the V6 Mustang. So I am still not sure how well these will sell in comparison. They also rumored to be offering the Dodge Cuda. Since Plymouth doesn't exist anymore, which is kinda dumb.

I've started saving for the '09 Wouldn't buy the first production year of a car. And now knowing the manual won't be available for a year, I'll wait.

actually i believe the "retro" styling started more with the introduction (then the flop) of the prowler

The drivetrain, chassis, brakes, the whole deal are the same as the rest of the SRT models. For the most part, it's a new body on a proven platform. Only major difference is the addition of the 6 speed manual, which comes from the the Viper.
