popping noise from front end when braking

I get an occassional popping noise from the front end when I apply the brakes lightly. This seems to happen more if I back up a bit, like pulling out of a parking space or turning.the vibe is 2.5 years old and have 18,000 on it

Sounds like the font brake pads shifting against the caliper. The pads are likely pretty worn and the piston is extended out to where the pad has a few millimeters to shift position when changing forwards and backwards motion. I have the same thing happening on one of my other vehicles.

thanks guys, that does help. I wasn't thinking brake pads with only 18,000 miles but ya never know. I'm going to take it to Brake Check and have them look and see instead of $$ with the dealer.

I've kinda narrowed it down to when I back up and then apply the brakes I get the poping noise and it'll most always stay away until I back up again.after the holidays, I'll take it to the dealer and have them look at it, to get it on the 'record', because it is still under warranty. and on the record, because if I have the same trouble down the road then there is a record that GM has looked at it before.

If it's singular it's prolly just the pads shifting in the calipers.... if it's mutiple pops, then something else is going on...My thoughts lean toward brake maintainence...

yep a single pop either when backing up or going forward and only happens once.this "should" be covered under warranty, yes ?

Yeah, it should be, sounds like brakes though, with only one pop... pads shifting... or something...

well, I took it to the dealer and they said "for this type vehicle it is normal. The brake pads are shifting slightly, but you have plenty of pad left so there is nothing wrong with the brakes."what ever ** shrugs shoulders **, as long as the brakes work when needed.thanks,peace,bob
