Why do we keep getting the crap in North America. I'd almost buy a Ford if that is what they offered.
If God didn’t want us to eat meat, why did he make the cow so slow? (Ever eaten a cheetah-burger? Nope. And you never will.)

Sucks for us, but the topic is also fully covered in this forum under the death of ford. I would seriously consider that if we had it.

hey whelan. yeah i posted in that thread too... which is why i brought this up...my question in that thread was about the mazda and focus. in fact, you can see a resemblance in the way the hood connects to the fender line...i would consider this car too, if it was available!

It's really a shame we get the SVT and the rest of the world gets the RS...

The SVT wasn't bad for what is was back in the day 170hp was a decent amount, heck it was more than the Civic Si and right near the SE-R Spec V and a tad under the 180hp GTI.But they just shot themselves in the foot with the one we have now. I have yet to see one at a dealership, but I guess I haven't been looking. As for the new ST in Europe, its pure hotness. It really does have a Mazda 3 kinda line to it. Which baffles me that the Mazda 6 uses the engine from a Taurus 3.0L V6 and the Mazda 5 is a Ford SMAXX overseas. Yet they couldnt come up with a Mazda 3 variant for the new Focus. cmon! With Mazda's you get performance, sportiness, HIDs even and cool climate controls and what not. When I worked at Acura we got a 2.3L 3 sedan with a 5 speed. It was pretty base but had 17's and a few amenities. I took it for spin, and was really impressed with its go and looks. We had it on the lot for like $10,990 or something and it sold in a week.

I don't really like the focus, but I would luv to have the ST or RS, they are so much more aggressive looking, and look better than even the SVT.

My friend's dad works for honeywell and had an RS from England for a while (along with a smart roadster and bmw 5series turbodiesel) and the RS is great..we took all three cars to woodward last summer for the Honeywell booth and got to take turns driving them up and down the strip, people laughed about a rhd focus hatch..until they hear the turbo spool up and you take off but anyway that RS (2005) i think was definitely fwd but it was stil great

I think if they brought this thing to North America their sales we be insane! It would totally turn around any negative image that a Focus receives... I would so buy one of those over a lot of cars. But as for the Focus in production now I couldn't say the same thing.

They changed the look of the new ones before I hear someone say "blah blah blah they look like garbage." I think the new ones look @$#%in sick.

Have any of you guys actually driven a new north american focus? I realize it doesn't look like the EU focus, probably doesn't ride/handle quite like it, but it is still a very good small car. I drove one once and was very impressed that Ford could make so many improvements on the existing NA platform with just some minor updates. I found the engine had acceptable power (better than the 1.8, not as much as the 2.4) and the ride/handling balance was spot on for a small car. In fact, if Ford would have kept the wagon version I wouldn't even be on this forum as I'd have an '09 Focus wagon instead of the Vibe.Consumers have also approved of the NA focus as the sales were through the roof last year (some 30+% increase from '07). Having said that though, I can't wait until Ford starts to bring some of the EU cars over here.

The biggest reason we don't get the "cool cars" is because americans as a people, can't drive to save thier lives... Who has rented a car here? Every single one of them is an automatic.... Go overthe pond and you are hard pressed to even RENT a auto... It's stupid easy to get a driver lisense here, over in europe, not so much... 2 weeks of school, almost 2k in expenses (someone correct me here if i'm wrong please) It reminds me of the firs year that the WRX was in the states.... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many of them got wrecked because of the "Superman Syndrome" Where someone gets a car, with some power, ABS, AWD...ect.... Then they feel they can defy the laws of physics.... and it bites them in the (removed).... Ask me how I know of the "Superman Syndrome" and i'll type out my expierence with my first Subie, first day of driving it and how I tried to defy the laws of physics... Let's just say, I drove like my grandma for 2 weeks after that... AND at the time, I "thought" I was a pretty good driver..

North its suposed to be here around the end of the year. and its about time Ford pulled part of their head out of their rears this focus is freakin sick! by far the best focus since the 03 SVT.now all they need to do is bring over or revive the Falcon here in the states.http://www.fpv.com.au/index.aspx

the NA focus was ok as a car here. I drove one before i got the vibe and liked it, they just were asking more than I thought was reasonable. But the difference in the euro vs NA is insane!! I'm looking into that 2.5l I5 engine and it seems really good for reliability etc. I may seriously be considering a car switch :Dnascar - yes the AUS fords...mmmmm darn a turbo v8? stock...jeeezz!!! WHY NOT HERE!!!! We should all take a trip to AUS for driving fun :D

DANG they get all the goods. But yes CR even stated the svt focus was the BEST NA handling car. man it had lots of goodies too. Wanted one, but people want crazy amounts of money for them even used! like 10 grand for a old one wtih 50k miles...(removed) right. hold their value I guess. I spent 2 hours last night googling and giggling with my BFF jeff about the focus.. he is the one with the SC cobalt. If the cruze SS doesnt come out he said he'd get a focus RS if the nurgburgring time was good. You know the car can handle well if the ring times are good..and we are all about handling now.. Need a good road tour car :D
