i just installed a cold air intake and my CEL is on with all four cylinders miss firing and my map censor comes up also. i was woundering if my cars computer will adjust the timings over altitle time or do i have to take my car to a mechanic and have them chnage the timing?
first things first.what kind of intake was it?What model, base, GT?Did you disconnect the negative battery cable before the install?Did you connect the hoses to the correct locations?Did you try to reinstall the OEM air box to see if the codes clear?Sounds like you have a typical MAF sensor issue there. Did you bump it?Does it fit tightly in the new intake with out air leaks? If your having issues now the computer will not fix them. When I installed my intake it fired right up with out any CEL's and have not had any since the install over 6 months ago.what I am trying to say is if you have cel's now you will have them later, the computer will not fix it. If you have a buddy who owns a vibe, matrix, corolla ect anything with the same engine. What I would do in your situation is to swap out your maf sensor for his/hers and see if the issue resolves it self. If not, hate to say it, but it looks like you will need a new maf sensor. You won't be able to adjust timing.Photos of the engine bay with hose routing would greatly help us help you.if this is what your still running no wonder your having issues... rip that crap out and do it right. a member is selling a REAL CAI... spend the money my 2c.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=30567

I wouldn't be surprised if you damaged your MAF sensor in the process of rigging that. And those aren't cheap to replace. We're not trying to pick on you, but seriously, pull that out and do it right or don't do it at all.

I had an 03 VGT with the TRD CAI and i had a CEL. I bought the Unichip and that took care of it. no more CEL and the car had even more power and much needed torque. Not tons, but still much better than stock or with just the CAI.
don't get me wrong... I am all for the built not bought... but if you are going to do something you gotta do it right and clean.. Everything about those pictures is terrible, and I am not trying to be a douche... I am just saying it would be worth the 70 bones to buy a cosmo sri before you seriously mess something up (even though it sounds like your maf is toast, and those aren't cheap). To each their own, I guess... and good luck with that.
I wouldn't be surprised if you have a leak somewhere. I would recommend getting a $25 ebay intake or go to your local auto parts store and ask for a Spectre Performance modular short ram intake part list. Also, that is a short ram (warm air intake), not a CAI (cold air intake).http://www.spectreperformance.com/

Yes, the UNICHIP does work. It works better the more mods you have. So I'd wait until you have the intake and exhaust taken care of. You'll see the biggest gains with the UNICHIP at that time.
