GT = ?

Post by jamesmetairie »

what,s the difference between a bsae vibe and a "GT" in 2003 ? if it,s the engine , is the "GT" engine more reliable ? the used car i,m thinking to buy is automatic tranny with 130,000 miles. thanks.

The engine is different between the base and the GT. A number of other differences as wellThe GT only comes with a 6 speed manual transmissionThe GT comes with four wheel disc brakes, the base has rear drum brakesTHe GT requires premium gasThe GT gives you "lift", a boost at really high RPMs130K miles is a lot, how reliable it will be for you depends on how well it was maintained. Probably last a long time, and you should get a deal on a high mileage car . The auto tranny has been fairly reliable in Vibes. There hasn't been much difference in reliability between base and GT engines, although I'd think that a GT would have been originally purchased by someone who would drive it more agressively than the average person who bought the humble base model.

GT > BaseAWD > All (but I guess that lies on the owners opinion)

Yeah I lose out in the mpg, even to the XRS/GT I think. Although I'm happy with 25mpg average and 30 highway. The Civic was the best, 38 highway and 32 city. I got 450 miles out of one tank.

One ride or drive in a GT changes a lot of minds. I say get what you really want and you'll be happiest.

Not when my GT can still smoke the AWD with a supercharger...and yes...thats proven! HAHA! Plus you don't get the control with an Automatic that you can have with a manual transmission!And again to the guy buying...either one is essentially a Toyota motor, which of course have a great history of durability! Oh yeah and lots not forget the major difference between the Base/AWD and the GT... 50 Horsepower ...and more fun than you can imagine above 6,000 RPM!Stock GT 0-60 = 7.3 secondsStock AWD 0-60 = 11.5 seconds!

HAHA!wow, mr. defensive. ever heard of the expression "tongue in cheek"?being as new as you are, you obviously don't know that we are all aware of that, a base with a SC is still a drivers race pretty much. we all know that. a turbo base, however, would eat you for lunch.in the snow, the AWD could do 3 donuts, then still beat the gt. in the rain, no match either.

Nah "tongue in cheek" What does that mean?! haha j/k dude...we get snow up here pretty bad though and it doesn't seem to slow me down....besides we all know the most fun that can be had in the snow involves the "E" brake which you can do in any model! But hey...just dishing out the crap man...no hard feelings!

for the record, an AWD donut is far more fun and looks cooler than an e-brake slide. i loved the look on my buddies face when it was raining out and i smoked his grand prix with my AWD vibe.it may not be very noticeable when you are driving cautiously in the snow, but when trying to haul (removed), you would notice a big difference!

Get a AWD, then steal a GT and put the motor in the AWD, then put nitrous and a turbo on it...oh yeah, and some ghey Fast & Furious stickers. with a bunch of neon and a body kit but don't lower the car... That would be the best Vibe EVER!

AWD Donuts in the snow FTMFW!!!Got to do them last year at the beach lot near my house. And nothing is better than when you punch it and the car goes down the lot at an angle like a drifter almost and when you correct the car sticks and goes. Oh and going in snow is not a problem, anyone can GO in the snow. Stopping, cornering control, up and downhill the AWD will rock you, even on stocks while you roll on snows. The stock Goodyears ran ok in the snow but I cannot wait to get these Kumho Ecsta ASX's out in the stuff.And for the record, stopping in an AWD can be beneficial as you can shift to a lower gear and all wheels continue to turn if slick thus depowering and slowing the car. With a FWD you can downshift your XRS/GT but if your back wheels start to slide, you will end up going down the hill *** first.

"with a FWD you can downshift your XRS/GT but if your back wheels start to slide, you will end up going down the hill *** first. "Thats what you have the "E" brake for...it'll lock all of 'em up! haha...yes yes...I know your AWD will handle better in the snow...but lets talk about the 345+ days a year where it usually won't be an issue. And yes you can handle better in the snow...but everyone's gonna have similar stopping capability...AWD, rear wheel or front wheel, if you step on the brakes hard, you'll have no more traction with any of them. Thats when it comes down to whats gripping the road(ie. your snow tires)And as far as donuts go....I've done a 540 in a FWD Mercury Villager minivan....so who cares?! again guys....just messin' with ya!

Talk about being a ball buster, lol, just kidding. The other 345 days of the year I cruise around. If I wanted speed I would have kept my 02 Civic Coupe and dropped a K20a in it.
