We're all familiar with the hardware guys blaming the software, and the software techs blaming the hardware. But today I heard a new one...This morning our office DSL is not working. Checked all the usual stuff, swapped the backup modem and backup firewall, no joy. Get on the horn to our ISP, they in turn get on the horn to Covad. Eventually they get it going, but it is flaky. They are telling us that our loop from the telco central office has "gotten longer" since we moved into our office two years ago, and that we are now almost too far away for DSL.Huh? Longer? The telco hasn't moved, we haven't moved, there has only been one small 4.7 earthquake in the last two years and it was 30 miles east of here, so it's not like the earth has moved or anything. They couldn't explain it either. We should have a T1 in a couple of weeks.
