As some people told me about my sub, all the wiring was not looking very good. It was kindly messy. So I got free time over last week-end and I make a little clean up.This is how it was looking before the clean up: And now it looks like this:
I was wondering where to put the amp. I thought about under the rear seat but there's not enough space (the amp is 3" high). After that I thought under the passanger seat, but that that way I had to rewire everuthing. So I decided to use the spare compartment. With some cut in the plastic, the amp. fit preferctly.

I would worry about heat on that amp. You have it mounted upside down by the looks of the pictures. The amp is designed to disapate (sp?) heat up and away, now your sending it through the board and out the botton which does not have any heat sinks. With the plastic cover on top of it and the summer coming up, I would give that amp to around August before you'll end up replacing it.

It looks like there would be room for a small 12v DC fan. Mount the fan under the cargo bed and in the gap below the amp. Of course you're gonna have to put some holes in the bed for the fan. Put some more holes in the bed above the gap atop the amp, and when the fan runs it will cycle air across the amp from the open hole to the fan hole.Just a thought.KSNeptune
I tough about this as well.I don't worry too much about this as this amp has a very effective protection against heating.I it "clip", I'll turn it up side down, and if it still not working, I will add a fan. BTW, I do not use the amp "full open" very often and on a long period. And if it passes away, I'll change it to a JL audio.
quote:how do you get to the spare tire? I thought about this as well. I only have to unplug the RCA wires and flip the amp. There's enough wiring under the plastic to allow me to get the spare. But for sure, I won't be as easy as a "stock" Vibe. But the sound worth the effort.

He's got nothing to worry abouti have 2 mtx 8000 12's and i'm pushing 1200-1500 watts, i'm not blowing anything out my back window, although it hits so hard that the steering column shakes and my radar detector(mounted on the windshield) shakes off when i'm really showing it off.

that is way too much power, IMFO. i have mtx amp and subs and i am only pushing 150 x 2 max, and it is more than enough. light a lighter and the flame quivers. i notice with the higher watts, too much range hits and rock music sounds like (removed) and you cant hear the words, that is unless you have ear deafening highs, by which your ears are likely to bleed.maybe i should switch to a higher handling speaker and just bridge my amp and and only have one like you sub, maybe then i could use my hatch area again!

drunken, just get a dual-voice-coil sub.. Like a Alpine R12 or somtehing.. Though if you have a 2 channel MTX, it wouldn't push one of those, heh...

As far as your new setup, congrats, it looks much cleaner My only concern would be that it would have difficulty breathing, and if you do decide to change it for whatever reason, my next place to put it would be behind your sub box, with enough air between the amp and the seat to allow the heat to dissapate more easily. As far as the back glass, don't worry about that. I have 2 12" subs and a 15" sub with 2400 watts pushing them and the back glass hasn't given me a problem yet. The front one however, has cracked twice. This is more than likely from a rock on the highway though, as I found a small chip in the crack when I checked the outside

But I have this set up for almost 1 year and I never had any heating problem or anything similar.
JBL seems to be rock solid. The heat protection turned on only once, and it was in my Montana. It was around 95F outside, the amp was bridged and loaded at 2 ohms (instead of normally 4 ohms). So it was somewhat normal after 1 hour running at max to overheat a little bit.
