O..M..G not again! Cockroach this time! W/ Pics! 56K warning!

jeez is my house a bug magnet or what? first it was a spider, now and UGLY, LOATHSOME cockroach! On MY floor! Thing is they surprise me and i get all eeeeew! and try to kill them. He put up an OK fight but in the end, he met his maker. THRASHED my room trying to get him as he was quick, but I was quicker. ugh. we need terminix back. On a good note, i found my passport in all the hub bub! Back to Paris!

that WAS the aftermath. does a regular person watch tv sideways? mmm, didnt think so! really only the messiest part of my room is my desk since i have so much crap on it, but he started over by my comp tower, then made way under tv and then to closet where met his demise.picture to follow of what its "supposed" to look like

Well, bugs are everywhere man...what can I say? You may have a cleanliness issue, but spiders are there because of other insects. If you have crickets, be concerned for scorpions, and if you have a low of spiders and a wood framed house, be concerned for termites and others...

lol dude you're hilarious. i chased a roach around my room with my vacuum the other day when i was cleanin. i've got a bagless vac with a clear can so after i got it, i was watchin it spin around in the can for a couple mins before i went back to work

im wondering where they come in from? i recently spent like $2,000 dollars renovating my bedroom, new carpet, baseboards, doors, paints, lighting and it BOGGLES my mind how these bugs get in. and its not like I live in a shack, over half million dollar home. just ugh..but i put the room back together just fine

probably through the vents..or somewhere else..probably crawl up between the walls and come out somewhere underneath the baseboards

Yeah, that's a cricket and they can get in through the smallest of holes. There is usually a small gap between the carpet and the baseboard and the drywall never goes all the way to the floor. if there is any imperfections in the wood for the framing, a small seam where the corners of a room meet, for instance, they will get in. Has it been damp outside? Raining or just very humid? They will be more active then and especially this time of year they're trying to get ready for Fall so you will see them inside more. Have an unfinished basement or crawlspace under the house? You will see them there for sure. I have an older house though well insulated. Have old limestone type foundations, it has slight cracks and since August, my cats have devoured a least 5 of em. It's moisture they're attracted to, not food... and I hear it's bad luck to kill a black cricket so pick him up with your hands and set him free! (Or get a cat and let it have bad luck) heheDave

Most cockroaches hitch rides to move from place to place. Depends on the species. One common way they spread is from corrogated cardboard. They're great harborage points, and if a store has them and you brought the box home, you can get them. Either that the last resident had them.Cockroaches like hiding in tight and dark spaces. Surface sprays and fogging often aren't enough. If you hire someone to exterminate, make sure they use a boric acid dust in the walls.They can pick up all the moisture they need from condensation on plumbing pipes, and can pretty much feed on anything, including the paper from drywall.They also favor wood as well, particularily the joints. I'd look for concentrations of dark spots, which are their droppings. Use a good flashlight to inspect. Richard, I thought about you today. I was taking down my screen house to store for winter and a wolf spider (as big around as my fist) came crawling out from under the corner flap when I pulled the pole from the ground. I ran inside to get my camera but he was gone by the time I got back outside. We have them all over up here, they're big and they can jump 6'-8'. They are basically harmless but creepy looking.

Up here in Canada pesticides are regulated pretty heavily. We can't get that particular product. Another product Bayer makes, Demand CS is a microencapsulated product which also works quite well. Another product I understand works well tthat's available in the US is Orthene, which smells very bad, and you will need a proper respirator to use, but you can't use it on carpeted areas as it will stain it.

When I see that first bug able to make it to the house I know it's time to re-apply. Usually what happens is the bug enters the sprayed area and turns right around and heads in the other direction. Well the cool thing about microencapsulated products is that is has a long lasting residual. I've seen pictures of insects that come into contact with the product and the microcaps stick to their body.
