New exhaust, better gas mileage

Post by CountryVibe »

After I got exhaust done yesterday I reset my trip meter, After I worked the last 2 day i drove about 400 miles and checked how bad of a hit I was taking from the new mod. I saw that I am getting about 3.12 more mpg then before.I was shocked, don't think opening up the exhaust would make that big of a difference. Anyone else experience this?

You'll also notice that your car has a little more power, too. But too much of feeling that will lower your gas milage. The better flowing exhaust compliments the better flowing intake. Makes your engine not have to work as hard to get the same amount of air in and out.How do ya like the new sound?

It sounds great, the sound has gotten deeper then it was first put on. The floor will vibrate after 4k, and the higher the rpm it gets alot deeper. I am going to try to get a hold of a video camera this week end to make some clips

Let us know if this keeps up, or your mileage goes back to normal. I'm interested to know.

Been working on mine a little the other night. Found the cause of the leak from the header to downpipe flange. Idiot that welded on the flange got some spalding on the inside right where the donut gasket goes. Ended up taking off the whole half of the exhaust just to use my dremel to grind it smooth again. Put in a new gasket and some exhaust sealer just to be sure. Sounds alot better! Still have to get the Aero exhaust (Aeroexhaust.com) SUV muffler. That should make it quite again. They also have a resonated exhaust tip I wanted, but now I don't see it in 3".Countryvibe, if yourplanning on getting a highflow cat, I would put the resonator back in. It'll be really loud otherwise!

I don't buy that type of gain. Monitor it for many more miles, and get back to us. Going down the highway, your engine is at maybe 25% ouput. If the stock exhaust can't keep up with that, that engine will really be choked at WOT.

I really don't drive alot on the highway just country roads. Most of my miles are in the city delivering pizza
