Check engine light

Post by reb »

I have a 2003 Vibe with front wheel drive. My check engine light is on. I went to Autozone, they told me it was an emission sensor--but were unable to determine which one! They reset the light but it came back on after a drive cycle. I don't want to go to the dealer, any ideas?

There are all kinds of emission sensors on the vibes. Did they give you any code? When they hooked up to your ECU they should have gotten a code that tells you exactly what the problem is. You should get it checked at another shop and find out the code. But guessing, it is a sensor on the exhaust system. If you gave us more info our your car we can probably help you out more.- model- miles

It is a base model, with 110,000 miles. There is no noticeable change in performance since light came on. At Autozone they said their machine couldn't give a code if it was an emission sensor.

Well it must be the guys at the shop have no ideal what they are doing. If you have a problem in a sensor and get a check engine light, your ECU always puts out a code. I would go somehwere else to get it checked out again.

You can also just look for another Auto-Zone in the area or Advance Auto or maybe even a Pep Boys.I know that I took mine to 1 of 2 Auto-Zones in this town. THey kept getting some error in the system which dind't allow them to read the code. Went to the other Auto-Zone and it read it fine. Gave me a code and a list of possible causes. Just try another auto parts place.Dave

I have a code reader which works great on all vehicles except my Vibe. Just recently when I had a misfire, the CEL was on but I had to try 3-4 times with the code reader before it would connect and read the code. Maybe Vibes have a secretive, shy ECU.

If the car is running fine and the gas mileage etc is unchanged I would probably leave it go until the next occasion that it needed dealer service and then I'd ask them to look into it. Did they make sure the gas cap was on right?....Its stupid but for all cars that seems to be the most common reason for triggering these lights.....

The car is running fine, but the inspection is due at the end of the month. Will it still pass with the light on?
