I haven't, but i've thought about it. If I did it, i'd probably use some of those slimline subs so I wouldn't put too much weight on the hatch. If you did full fiberglass and normal subs, you'd definitely have to upgrade the pistons for the hatch.

It would be quite a bit of work, and you wouldn't be able to keep the hatch open with out a clamp lock for the struts.... It would be seriously heavy... It would be very cool though... and if you were going to the trouble to put them there, you wouldn't nessasarly need slim subs, you would just need to build them out a bit.... If you are in the market for slim subs though, check out http://www.aurasound.com.. under the components section... !!!You would be better off putting them in the spar tire well though... much less work, cleaner install... better output in terms of woofer direction...
yeah, the physical size of the sub would be irrelivent for this type of project... just not and of the super deep subs.... So you could really pick anything..... Whelan, i don't think you could GET struts to hold everything up to be honest, BUT, you COULD get linear actuators and have a motorized hatch..!!!!! And it really wouldn't be to very hard... Or pnumatics for that matter..

audiovibe...do you think they would sound decent? (not being in a box, etc) Perhaps rattle the panels off the car...not to mention I think it would result in that horrible exterior sound of vibrating panels.

There IS a member here that has a sub in that location, but, i can't remembe who... As far as sound, it would be about the same as any other location, it's sub frequencies and are not directional so you can't "tell" where it's comming from... As far as rattles, you'll get rattles reguardless... It's how you deal with them that counts...

Wow...... you took the idea right out of my head, I was wondering the exact same thing after i got an estimate to have a custom box made in one of the storage compartments in the rear, but i was leaning towrds using 8" subs, has anyone made any progress on this because i would really like to know, i have one 8" sub now and if I did the hatch i would consider using 2, and just fyi the estimate on the custom box in the storage compartment for me was $250 at the most with everything installed and wired up.

Quote, originally posted by quicksilver »Ya, would be cool to see....do they sell any subs that would fit properly and function properly in the spare well? I noticed it's fairly large o.OThere are PLENTY if you don't care about having the spare... If you want the spare there are still options, but, just less....
Here's a pic from my Garage. Its a Kicker L5 9.5 inch. The fibreglass box goes all the way down and just on the other side of the wheel well. The fibreglass is molded right to the steal side and sound deading is a must. Otherwise sounds pretty good, mine is sealed with no port.

If you are talking about the O in the black spare tire cover, you have if I recall .585 ft3. I know it was somewhere between .55 and .6 though. I use the elemental designs SQ10 now http://www.edesignaudio.com/ed...d=106It is an awesome sub if you dont have a ton of power. I will be switching to the jl w5 slim woofer when it becomes avaliable.Aron
