If you want to protect your car against thief, you can try this. It is very cheap (it cost nothing) and takes only few second of your time.Remove the AM2 fuse!!! The car wont start at all. Even if you have a manual and try to push it to start, it won't work. All the accessory work well but nothing from the starter and the ECM. Even the check engine light and the air bag light do not turn on in the dash.I know this cause I blow that fuse this week-end when I was installing some light under the dash.
I took me about 1 hour to figure out what was wrong.I first, I was very very stressed. I though I have shorted something in the ECU. I spoke with my friend who install aftermarket audio system, doos lock and remote starter. He told me don't worry, if it is only a little short, it is impossible to destroy the ECM. He told me, take a look at your fuse, you'll find the answer.I checked all the fuses under the hood first. All was ok. I started to be even more stressed. Then, I lay down at the driver's feet al pull out, 1 by 1, the micro fuses. The fuses box is so poorly located. It is a pain to remove those fuses. For sure, the one I blowed was one of the last one I checked. I was so happy to find it out. I was dancing in the driveway!!!! I changed it with one of the spare under the hood and when I turned the key, the engine started!!!By chance, I found out the problem myself. Towing the car to the dealer (we were saturday, so no service until monday) and have it checked by a mechanic would cost me a lot. 1 or 2 hours labour plus the fuse, so arond 150$, little expensive. quote: Speaking of blew, how blue was the air? No longer blue. They are orange for 2 month now.I'll get back to blue this summer.
I took a look in the owner manual. This fuse is used for the charginf system, air bag system, starter control and engine control. Now I know why the car was impossible to start, without starter and engine control, it is hard to start an engine.
What also makes a cheaoo anti theft device is to put a switch on the safety switch for the clutch pedal so you can turn it on and off
