What other cars did you consider or look at when buying your Vibe? Any particular features that made the Vibe win out?I looked around and researched for almost a year. Besides the Vibe I considered, in no particular order, Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, Chevy Aveo, Kia Spectra 5, Mazda 3, Nissan Versa. I was going from a van, so the fold flat space in back (largest space in class) was a big plus. Also, I was looking for good MPG, reliability and safety. The Vibe had pretty much all I wanted in a stylish package at a decent price. I also thought it was comfortable and fun to drive. So far, I'm very pleased with the choice.

I started car shopping about 4 months before I really needed to buy one - my sunfire was far beyond worth fixing.I started out looking at sportier cars - I really liked the 03+ Tiburons and 99+ Preludes. Both too expensive on gas and insurance. Then it came down to the Vibe, Matrix, 03/04 Echo Hatch, Protege5, 02/03 Civics and the Cobalt (briefly). Echo's too small, civic.. nice but not enough utility for my current needs.. P5 wasn't good enough on gas or as big inside compared to the Vibe, and used Matrixes are $2000-3000 more than vibes around here.So Vibe seemed the logical choice Main factor was excellent gas mileage, and room inside. And bonus, it's got a Toyota engine (didn't want another GM after what I went through with the sunfire!) Looked at a few on lots but they were kinda beat. I decided to go check one out just for fun, they didn't advertise any specs on it, so I figured it was auto and had a lot of km's on it. But alas, it was a 5-speed and still was under the factory powertrain warranty. Bought it and don't regret it at all. Been getting 38 mpg all summer!
I looked at the Ford Focus Wagon, Chevy HHR, Kia Spectra 5, Toyota Matrix and Dodge Caliber. I actually ordered a Caliber SXT. I had a friends/family discount and I thought it would be kind of cool to be one of the first to own a new model. After 13 weeks and no build date, I cancelled the order. I had already driven a Matrix and liked it, but the Vibe just looked better to me. The dealer I ordered the Caliber from also owns a GM dealership. I got the Vibe for almost the same price. I've owned it 14 months and have no regrets. It's a great car. I'm glad Dodge screwed up my order, I ended up with a much better car.
i was looking at the mazda 3 sport or the protege 5..i was mainly looking for anything better then my sunfire..and the vibe had it all, better mpg, more space, had 4 doors, was 5 spd, and had a quality built engine(toyota)
1988 Monte Carlo SS - Mom wouldn't let me buy a used car so my dream car with a small block slipped away through my fingers 2003 Stratus SXT - Too boring and main stream.2003 Civic EX - Insurance was through the roof.2003 PT Cruiser - Hated it.2001 Ford Escape - The rear differential snapped on it's way from Florida.1999 Ford Lightening - WAY too expensive.Never looked at the Matrix, actually now surprised I didn't.I absolutely hated the Vibe but I went to test drive it anyways cause the dealer was making such a big deal about it. I got there, still hated them but as soon as I sat in it and drove it I fell in love I got it as soon as I returned from the test drive without looking at anything else. I don't know why I liked it so much but now that I have so much money and work into it, shes a reflection of my own personality and style and I wouldn't trade it for any other car.Obviously it's not very fast but that's why I bought a Ducati
I looked at the Subaru Impreza Outback Sport, Toyota Matrix & Mazda 3. I was wanting a small suv/wagon/hatch type of vehicle with awd. The Vibe fit the bill perfectly.

I only the considered Torrent but didn't want to feed another V6 again, so that consideration didn't last too long. And if I didn't have a business and wasn't hoping to have a family soon, I would've seriously considered Solstice. But practical side of me said "another Vibe!"
I was seriously considering the AWD Dodge Caliber, it priced out almost right at the same price as the Vibe but with more toys and gadgets.but the quality of the interior was awful, I just could not stand the interior styling and the lack of trying to hide the fact the door panels were cheap plastic.I still think the exterior view of the Caliber in the "fusion orange" rocks

I looked at the Rav4. Thought it was too expensive for what it came with. Didn't even look at the Matrix, not sure why, but Toyota vehicles in general were overpriced when I was looking.
I actually wanted a station wagon I was browsing through the used inventory of my dealer and found tons and tons of luxury sedans and other cars turned in, and I'm assuming traded out for more fuel efficient cars. So on a whim I looked at the new cars. Vibe was listed under "Wagon" body style, probably because it doesn't quite fit any of the other body styles and is somewhat close. The other wagons were either ugly or poorly rated (actually the ugly one wasn't rated as high as the Vibe either), and it was a lot cheaper new than the used gas guzzlers. A lot more internet research and a test drive later, I am the soon to be new owner of a 2008 Vibe If only I could get the financing guys to move a little faster, I'd have it now!Oh I guess I skimmed over the other cars part. The ugly one was the Chevy HHR and there were some random Kias, the ones I actually considered until I found the Vibe were some used Buicks, I think a LaCrosse and something else. Once I found the Vibe I focused on that
My Sunfire was also needing more work than it was worth, and dying at almost every stop, so I needed something in a hurry. My Dad's best friend--our local Chevy/Pontiac dealer--sent a couple vehicles up for me to look at. One being a brand new Chevy Aveo, and the other a used Vibe (because he knew I'd had my eye on a Vibe since they came out). My mom and I drove the Aveo and felt like we were in a shoe box, so we took the Vibe and WHEEEEE! I loved it! So even though it was a few thousand dollars more used than the brand NEW Aveo, I had to have it. I guess I didn't have the luxury to spend a lot of time looking at much else--sort of had to take what was available to me, but I got my Vibe so I'm happy!
Was considering a lambo gallardo! but just couldnt get those damn golf clubs in it, Some one put a damn engine were the trunk should have been go figure!!!
(removed).....you win for the funniest post so far.Speaking of Gallardos I saw a couple of those last night on Woodward. Tried racing one on my Duc since they both have something in common but he was being a pansy I also really wanted an old school Japanese car. I had my eyes on a late '80s Supra. My neighbor had a 1970 240z. Datsuns are among my favorite cars so when he told me he was selling it I was all over it...unfortunately we couldn't get it to start.
I was actually looking for two years before i bought my vibe last week. I started out wanting a honda crv, wanted something with cargo space but not to big and was reliable and had good gas mileage. but what i could afford in a honda was older and had more miles than i wanted. tried a pt cruiser but was never completely happy with it. finally decided to look at pontiac( had a grand am that until it got creamed) found this one in Indy at carmax and was able to get it shipped to me. drove it and it was love at first ride.
I neede a small economical hatchback for my business. Had decided on an HHR but the Chevy dealer wouldn't budge on price. Went over to the Pontiac dealer and got $2000 off MSRP! Took delivery a few days and am quite happy with my choice:)

Was looking to buy new. Considered:Focus wagon (briefly)Dodge Caliber (briefly)Honda Fit (test drove - spoke with a dealer - I know one personnaly)Nissa Versa (test drove, was in the final three, it was cheaper)Toyota Matrix (Could have had a decent deal but just loved the Vibe better)Decided on the Vibe (was my "emotional" choice from the get go and I got a great deal which made me forget about the Versa or the Matrix). I absolutely love that car.EDIT: Also considered the Suzuki SX4. Probably my number 2 on "emotion" scale.
My last car was an AWESOME VW Golf TDI...got 44 MPG and the torque was out of this world. It was a 4 door and slightly shorter in length, but the Euro style quality was great.too bad my ex girlfriend wrecked it, they discontinued it for the 2007 model years, but should be back in 2008.
Was going to buy a GM car -- and wanted to use my GM 'points' (hence no Saturn). Thought about the Torrent, but wasn't thrilled with the V6. Considered leasing the Acadia, but it was simply too big (although very nice). I've always liked the Vibe -- fabulous utility, good economy. excellent warranty (I have a 2007), and pretty bullet-proof reliability. And I got to use my GM points for an excellent deal....
