So if you've followed this thread: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=28993You know I have some problems with the car. The noise hasn't gone away. But now there is a noticeable vibration in the steering wheel on the highway. I know this is probably a balancing issue. So my question is, do you think the issue with the braking noise and the issue with the balancing are connected? The braking noise is definitely rotational when coming to a stop - could it be caused by improperly balanced tires?

I had a problem like this with my first Sunfire. It made a weird noise which I thought was the rear brakes. It turned out being the tires were cupped from lack of rotation. So,it could be possible.

I haven't been following the other thread. However this vibration, do you feel it while braking at highway speeds or just while driving? If you feel it while braking, then its very likely caused by warped brake rotors. However if your not braking, its very likely caused by tires being cupped or worn differently. Cupped can happen from lack of rotations or alignment issue. However connecting both concerns of noise and vibration is possible. Having tires out of balance shakes not only the wheel but the hub/brake system also. I'd get your tires rebalanced to remove the vibration, then roadtest for the noise and see what happens. Cupped tires also create a noise.

The braking noise has been happening since I got new brake pads 3 weeks ago. It happens right when you come to a stop. Kinda like a rub, pause, rub, pause, rub noise. Today was the second time we noticed the vibration - that was driving at highway speed (over 100km/hr). My husband's arms were visibly vibrating. I first noticed a slight vibration in city driving (at 70km/hr) on Thursday morning. I'm taking it back (yet again) on Monday night. *sigh*My tires are new in April.

was it an aftermarket pads? Sometimes the correct aftermarket pads don't fit in properly and cause noises when applied as they vibrate or shift in the caliper. As for the wheels, when they had your tires off to do the brakes, did they rotate the tires? Even if they are new, maybe there is a balance issue on one of them and now its on the front wheel. 100km vibration sounds like its from the wheels.

I have no idea what pads were put on. The last time I took it in, their finding for the brake noise was clips touching the caliper, this was what they told me, but when I read the printout, it turns out that the heard the noise, found clips touching the caliper, readjusted, road tested again, heard the noise still, took the whole thing apart, put it back together and then heard no noise. This seemed to fix it for about 3 days, and now the noise is back.

3 of 4 wheels where unbalanced. It seems smoother, but the noise is still there (quieter, but there) from the brakes. They told me basically they can't get rid of it.

Yep they function. I used them hard last night (slammed them on rather than run the red!) and worked. I haven't taken it on the highway yet, so I can only assume the vibration is gone until I take it out. I did notice on my regular drive today that the steering wheel seemed smoother though.

I need a recap: You had your brakes serviced and this started happening right? Balancing should not be causing the noise but your wheels may have needed balancing anyway. I just had this problem with my Accord and it was caused by the rotor not being flush against the hub (you know where the wheel studs are). You could have a rust buildup or dirt behind the rotor or worse and in my case.. see belowOn the Accord, the screws that temporarily hold the rotor had snapped and the rotor when remounted was offset by one stud hole and sat onto the stubby part of the snapped screw. So the rotor was wonky on rotation, hence, the rubbing sound when slowing down.. grww, grww, grww. Sounds familiar? I'll post a pic tomorrow to illustrate. So you might need to pull the rotor and check behind them.BTW: The Accord problem happened at Gary's Automotive in Kanata and we took the car back three times!!. Finally I was ticked and decided to redo the brakes myself when I found the problem the minute I pulled the wheels. What a pain.Andrew
