2003 Base Vibe, Auto, with 47K, just started making a small buzzing noise under the hood when the car reached 2800 RPMs. Then once I increased speed and it hit 3000-3200 RPMs, it began to make a roaring noise, almost like it was stuck in gear. (Very loud, but minimal loss of power, and once it down shifted, it went away) The car ran smoothly unless it was taken to 2800-3200 RPMs. (Which on the highway was around 70-75 mph) I am going to call the dealer, but I dont have an extended warranty and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what this could be, or how to go about getting it repaired? Thanks for your help!
Could you see using the tach that the transmission wasn't shifting when it should have? Have you checked the transmission fluid level? other than the noise while driving, are there any other things that make you think it is the transmission? If you think it is the transmission, and haven't done so already, change the transmission fluid. Be sure to use the right (toyota) typeand welcome to genvibe!
Thanks for the response, and yea, I just checked the transmission fluid and it looks fine. I called the dealership and he said that they have never had problems with the Vibes transmissions, so I am going to bring it in today and hopefully it wont be something really serious. I will keep you updated-
