Horny Power Locks

Post by BlackBerry »

When I locked the doors last night it sounded the horn! Unlock - honk! Lock - honk! I was in the car, running, and not using the remote. This is the second timr this happened. I tried to recreate it the problem but unfortunately it seems intermitant. Anyone else ever experience this or have any idea what's going on? EC

LOL! There is a thread elsewhere about how people want this feature, except they want it on remote locking, not interior manual locking. You have a security system I bet. That is the only connection between the two. [Not quite true -- see below.] Does it only happen under certain security states?

Happened to me too. Only I supposedly don't have the security system. I don't have the light to the left of the steering column, as shown in the owners manual. Anyway, it went off when I was waxing the right rear quarter panel. Didn't know how to turn it off, so I got the keys, started it up (horn still blowing), shut it off, and it quit!! Hasn't happened since.

OK, I love a good mystery. Maybe you have the security controller installed with none of the other stuff? My car was built to order with no security system, and the controller isn't there, at least not where it is supposed to be. Both the Matrix and Vibe books say it is supposed to be mounted right of the glove box, which can be removed in 30 seconds with one screw. The hinges pop out if you pull toward the passenger headrest. The security controller should be hard to miss, a big box with a 40-pin connector. There would also be a smaller box mounted high in the right side of the dash with 8-pin connector, the glass breakage sensor. Let us know what you find...

Sounds wierd, but I think possible. I recently purchased a Toyota Matrix keylees remote from eBay, and it has a red panic button on the back. After programming my Vibe, I pushed it and the lights started flashing and horn beeps until I put the key in the ignition; and I do not have the security alarm. Wonder why Pontiac's keyless doesn't have the panic button?

Interesting question....

Oops, I missed another horn connection in the wiring diagrams. If you have keyless entry, you have the "multifunction alarm module" (Pontiac term, Toyota calls it "integration relay") which has connections to the horn, lights, and flasher along with all the other door locking and courtesy light stuff. That must be what Toyota's panic button talks to. It appears this module does some of the basic security stuff, while the "theft deterrent module" (Toyota's "TVIP ECU") is the optional part that comes only with an advanced vehicle intrusion/theft alarm. Does that confuse everyone? Maybe Mikey has a neighbor with a Toyota remote that is messing with him. Or maybe someone is cruising around, using a Toyota panic button to search for cars to steal.

Post by BlackBerry »

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, all. The issued has been fixed! Silverawd26 was correct. There was a loose connection at the alarm console. It seems that there is an alarm unit installed whether one is ordered or not. It actually makes sense. The only place that the horn and power locks would come together is at an alarm. Thanks all!

I also purchased a Matrix key fob with the panic button off eBay (cost me $5.00 + 4.25 shipping). It just came in the mail today and after programming it to the car, sure enough, the panic button works! Here's one for same on eBay now:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 1&rd=1Here are the instructions to add a new remote:http://www.novaresource.org/vibe/add_remote.jpg

There is a Kill Start that is part of the Factory alarm module, ..... After reading the posts here.... I know that it is standard equipment in the Vibe, I understand why the dealer said it was a freebie, and made it look like I was getting a deal!..LOLThen again other people get charged for this option even tho its integrated part of the vehicle ....I believe the dealer charges 400.00 bux for this alarm feature, I bet if someonme has the manual can probably activate this feature without even have to pay for the extra option..........Amazing!!In that case it is safe to also say that "the open and close door chirp" can also be enabled, if sopmeone has access or documentation to the factory security system......

Scott, Thanks for posting the image of the programming sequence. I printed it out and stuffed it in with my manual in the glove box. I also just received a Matrix key fob I got from the same guy, but I was impatient and did "buy it now" for $15. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 90633&rd=1 Panic button works fine, but I thought maybe it would give a "chirp" when you lock the doors. LOL! You were thinking the same thing I was... I wondered if there would be contacts on the circuit board inside the remote for the extra button. After all, it would be cheaper for them to use one board but have a different back to the remote for models w/o the panic button. I wonder if one could get the case for the Toyota remote and keep the current board... Probably not.

Is there suppossed to be a glass breakage sensor in all security pakages? I was broken in to two weeks ago, after they pryed off the door handle they smashed the passenger window but the car did not make a peep! The car is at a body shop while it waits almost three weeks for a new handle!

I don't think the factory alarm has a glass breakage sensor. Opening doors or disconnecting battery terminals will activate it. I don't have my manual handy, but I think it's covered in there.

I'm pretty sure you are right that it doesn't have a glass sensor, my car is still in the shop,3 weeks later, waiting for a door handle! I remember reading that it was only if they opened a door would the 'alarm' sound, but after peeling the handle off with no luck getting in they smashed the window. I was just hoping to find something to scream at my dealer about. I'm pretty pissed the theives could do so much with out the system reacting. As soon as i get it back it goes to get a true alarm put in.

I have the GM factory alarm option, there is no Glass sensor, just I believe the radio has its own alarm as well, there is an led that blinks there

Ya, well it's factory. I wasn't looking for a security system when I bought the car. Theft is more of a problem when I go to Regina, and I have The Club for that. As long as it doesn't look like there might be something good in your car, thieves won't break in. Maybe dumb kids will smash out windows, but Bad deal on getting broken into. That's a bit of a long wait for parts; phone GM's customer line & file a complaint. That generally speeds up the parts process.

Actually because of my work I know the parts guys at my local dealer pretty well and one said today the handle was sent from Flint MI on the 21 so I should have my little rat back soon! Do you know the number for the complaint line?
