Love the books and movie series. Very entertaining. We'll be seeing "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" on Thursday night. Can't wait! Already pre-ordered the final book as well that comes out on the 21st. I may be older then the majority of HP fans but am still a kid at heart and can enjoy a good movie and book that may be geared towards the younger generations. So who else is seeing the movie and/or getting the final book?

Um both BC. I love the books but still am 1 or 2 behind! :S The movies are fairly good at portraying the books, but the last movie and this upcoming one look really good. Really amazing CG and story is getting deep. The last HP movie I saw at the midnight showing. The books my parents order so we get it the day of or day after its out.
Transformers is better j/kI read the first 3 I think... My wife & I like the movies. We plan on seeing it sometime. It's one franchise that sticks fairly close to the book with the movies

My wife and I enjoy the books & movies, as do my parents and brother, brother's wife, many friends, etc. I think that many fans are older, which is why it sells so huge. It's just not marketed at the older group.

I voted books only....as good a job as they do with the movies, it will never reach the levels of my imagination upon reading the books....I'll see the movies, but I'll be disappointed.....

I've never seen one in the theater or read any of the books. However I do enjoy the movies and have the whole set at home and have watched them several times.

It's the second one I'll see w/o reading the book so I don't know what to expect. Did anyone else see the guy who plays Harry on The Tonight Show last night?
There was a pretty good show on G4TV about the making of the latest movie. I'm a fan of the movies. I've never read a book.

We'll be seeing it tomorrow night on the Mueller Monster Screen and the Rogers 18 Mueller Family Theater. It's the largest non-Imax Screen in Minnesota. The screen size is 80ft wide and 35' high with high back stadium rocker seating. It just opened up a few months ago and seats 600ppl for the monster screen alone. They have 17 other normal and smaller sized screens as well. Hence the Rogers 18. I can't wait!!!

Wow, enjoy it Brian! The movie was awesome I thought! It was a lot darker, as everyone says....pretty much got right in to the 'action', and not much of the kids just being kids--no going to class, no Quidditch games, no going shopping, etc. But it was really good and sets it up nicely for the next one!I can't WAIT to go home to bed though--got in bed at 3 a.m. and the alarm went off at 5:15.
Took the family out to see Transformers last night. There was a line already ar 8:00pm for the Harry Potter midnight showing. When we got out of our movie, the whole lobby was filled with kids dressed up in HP garb carrying home made stick brooms and wearing gowns with the scarfs. It was funny watching the theater staff confiscating the 'stick wands' cause they weren't allowed in the theaters. Almost as bad as Star Wars.Oh, and Transformars was AWESOME!! Best action movie I've seen in a LONG time!!

Saw it last night. Good movie. I think I liked the last one better though. This one strayed farthest from it's book. The others almost followed the books to a "T". Oh, well. The last book comes out in a week.

My wife and I are fans of the books only. In fact, it's become a tradition in the Zuben household to read every preceding novel before a new one is released. Actually, this year, we're listening to the audio books (performed by Jim Dale...excellent).The movies, while visually amazing (and pretty darn near how we envisioned that world) are superficial and lack character depth. I can understand needing to abridge things, but a lot of the motivation for the plot changes to the movies appears to be commercially-minded, that is, they've edited them short to maximize daily viewings. They've painted themselves in a corner with some of the weak characterizations and I think the final movies will fall apart after that.Seriously, if a 10-year old kid can sit and read through a 300-page book, don't you think they could make it through a 3-hour movie? If you've seen any of the DVD's and the deleted scenes, you'll know that they would have been better left in for the most part, even if the movie is extended 15-30 minutes.I just wish Terry Giliam had been able to direct the movies as J. K. Rowling had originally wanted. They would have been brilliant.
we saw the movie this weekend... like I said earlier we haven't read this book so I don't know all the little stuff but the movie was great! The fight between Dumbledore and Voldamort was AWESOME!!! Zuben, you really should learn to use some sort of SPOILER warning
I saw it today and I really liked it. I'm liking the darker side of it. I have all the books up to the last one that came out, but I've only read the first 2 books. Eventually I will get around to reading them all.
Quote, originally posted by ANO_Vibe »Zuben, you really should learn to use some sort of SPOILER warning Whoops! I just figured that everyone reading this thread knew what I was taking about. My apologies to those who haven't read Book 6 (Half-Blood Prince).
crap well now I'm gonna have to read these to find out what happens One character in the movie that didn't get much screen time was the purple/blue haired girl (it turned red when she got mad)... does the book delve into her character more? She seemed interesting.

It'll be here on Saturday. Woot!

So has anyone gotten in to the spoiler hype on different websites? And do you believe that they are actually REAL pages? I have purposely avoided looking at any of that stuff, even though I'm not sure if I believe its the real deal. Last night at work some tub of goo punk and I were talking about going to the store at midnight to get the book, and this jerk says, "I read some chapters on the internet. ******** dies, you know." I was like thanks a LOT you (removed)! He said "Well there are spoilers all over the Internet!" I said, "Yeah, and I have specifically AVOIDED them so I wouldn't know!" I hope he's wrong, but I was incredibly pissed off! I know, it's JUST a book, but come ON!

Quote, originally posted by rebbierae »...tub of goo punk...ROFL!!!! The spoiler rumors are quite tantalizing, aren't they? I'm flabbergasted that someone actually took the time to photograph all 700+ pages (350 images) and put them in a pdf and then drop it into bitTorrent. It would have taken a while to get all that done, meaning that, if it was a legitimate copy, it would have come into someone's possession quite some time ago. Maybe it was a readers proof.
oh my god! i have never read any of the previous versions, but i saw the new one at wal-mart and decided to give it a whack. it was so friggin' good i stayed up until 3:00am last night so i could just read the whole thing through! awesome book!ok, just kiddin', i'll never actually read any of them.

no, it's because children's books about wizards just don't appeal to me.also, if you are going to challenge my intelligence by calling me "country", please try to do so with commas in your sentence to separate your thoughts. this will prevent you from appearing to be the unintelligent yourself.

in before thread lock it is hard for me to make the time to sit and read a book. I "read" a lot of recorded books though, I do spend a lot of time driving. I'll have to reserve the audio version at the library, if there is one yet.the potter books are interesting, but I can certainly understand that they do not have universal appeal. One of them I barely made it though, maybe the "order of the phoenix" one, seemed like hundreds of pages of nothing but Harry whining about not knowing what was going on. awefully tedious. I remember thinking that the wizard battle at the end would make for good movie stuff, hopefully that is done well.SPOILER ALERT: select the this post to read the hidden spoiler info:If you read the whole book in one sitting, at the end, if you forgot to put the milk away before you started reading, it has probably spoiled
Hey joatmon...have you ever tried listening to the Harry Potter audio books by Jim Dale? They're excellent. My wife and I are listening to the series right now to get caught up for book 7. (Side note: Jim Dale will be in Houston tomorrow for a guest reading and signing; hope we're able to go.)I like your font trick for the spoiler, joat. Wish we had pop-up spoiler notes like some forums have. I do have one minor spoiler alert and made it into an attached jpg.

Only through 1 of 17 CDs so far. Great to listen to on the drive, I seem to be able to multitask listening to recorded books and driving well, must use different parts of the brain. Problem is, I'll probably end up listening to it over the weekend some, will get less done, and would be quicker to just read the printed version. Hopefully I will be able to hold off and use it to fill at least some of the commute through next week.
