Question about the Vibes engines.

Post by tangerine »

I don't know jack about these motors so I have a question..other than the Matrix/Vibe what cars are these 2 motors in? if any? A forum member may have just inspired me to look into something.

hmm...so a built/sleeved motor from a wrecked celica should bolt to a Vibe? If only there were a strong tranny for da AWD vibe..lol. The kid who lives next to my granny had a heavily modded Celica and put her into a wall at the strip when it started sprinkling. He asked me if I wanted to buy it and I considered it. He only wants $3,000 since the built motor has 7k miles on it. I'll have to do some reading through old posts on here tomarrow when I get up and get more info on the AWD Vibe and think about buying one and doing a cheap swap. He made 462whp on his celica with this motor (hello torque steer) but he's not selling the turbo setup with it. Before I do this, are any of you actually looking to make big power from your Vibes? If so, then I will go forward with this, find out about his build and tally up costs of parts/build for what it would cost to be done to the motors you already have. A use to all my free time...who woulda thought..

It might not be a direct bolt in, remember ecu and electronics will be different. You should ask over on new celica for sure, also model years could of changed , ie. dbw and dbc. Otherwise I think the main engine block/heads were the same, so a swap or whatever your project entails should work, just check before hand for the little things.. if you get a auto tranny just beef that baby up with level10 parts and it is suppose to be "bullet proof" with hp rating of like 400 or more :D

I think the auto will be a crutch.Even if you build it up,I think it will cause problems.Regardless of what they say the trannys can handle,320hp will be max without major problems. Many of the turbo and auto guys with a Matrix/Corolla all have problems. Not worth the investment.Fore-warned is fore-armed.

wait? did i miss something. where does it say it's an auto??and yes, even though i don't have a vibe/trix any more, as a fellow turbo'd auto, they are more difficult to mod. however, having one of the few modded auto's is priceless.

I just mentioned it because if Tangerine builds a Vibe,It will be auto and I'm just letting him know what he's up against.Something as a cost factor that has to be figured out,or a hurdle overcome.

I think it's been 2 or 3 threads now where we've established that Tangerine isn't able to drive a standard haha that and he mentioned he wanted an AWD anyway... I think it's a really neat idea & I'd love to see what kinda power the vibe can handle. I say go for it... especially if you have nothing better to do

This wouldn't be 'my' project if I did this so it could be manual or auto. I wanna gather info and then see if a Vibe owner in our car club wants to work together and see what a Vibe can be built to do with a reasonable budget. I may not have a Vibe anymore but I can still work and help push the limits.
