Rear Window Seal

I was driving and noticed an increasing level of road noise, almost sounded like a rear door was open. Upon further inspection found that the seal around the rear hatch glass ( not the whole hatch,just the glass) had partially fallen off. I pushed the seal back onto the flange and my Vibe was much quieter. Will probably have to glue the seal on to be more permantent, as I expect it to fall off again.

I would definately take it into your service department and have them look at it. That way it would be documented in the system in case they end up having a spell of the same problems... they can maybe at least prevent it from happening again or inspect the seal more diligently in the future.

I agree. Take it into the dealership and have them fix it. They should be able to get that back to the way it was before it started coming out.

I wouldn't 'glue' the seal on. As others have said earlier, get the dealer to look at it and possibly replace the weathersrtip. Rather than using glue, you could try just squeezing the weatherstrip tighter together (while off of the flange) and then pushing it back on. The gap of the weatherstrip where it is pushed onto the flange is an engineered value, and sometimes the vendor has trouble maintaining a consistent gap. The tolerance of the gap is usually .5 mm. If the gap is too tight, it becomes very difficult for the line worker to install, and they usually complain, or refuse to install it. If the gap is too big, you get water leaks. Yours obviously was too big if it fell off. You may also just have a defective weatherstrip and it needs to be replaced with a new one.

I agree with that too...I wouldn't glue it either, but I would take it to the nearest service dept to have them fix your problem. That's a warranty issue.

I agree with everyone. Make the dealership fix it. This way, there's documentation that it happened, and if it happens to someone else, their dealership willl know how to fix it too.There are too many old cars on the road with leaky weatherstripping -- don't let your Vibe become one in 10 or 15 years!!

I had the same thing happen on my 2000 GMC Sierra. The Dealer fix was to glue it back on. I bought the Vibe 3/24/02 at Hart Pontiac in West Branch. Almost 1 year old. Hart had exactly the car I wanted in stock. No noticeable noise here, but I get a stream of water pouring in when I run the Vibe through an automatic carwash. Last week, I noticed some water on top of my cargo cover, but couldn't really tell where it was coming from.I had to find the cause, so I ran it through again last night. Pulled into the automatic touchless wash, reclined the front seat and climbed to the back to watch. Sure enough, the weatherstripping isn't keeping the water out. Upon closer inspection, looks like the weatherstipping keeps pulling away from the top corners on both left and right side. Oddly enough, it seems to pull away equal amounts on each side, but the left is the only one leaking. I've pushed it back up several times since last night, but it continues to pull away from the metal.Thankfully it only leaks when being blasted with high pressure water, doesn't seem to leak when it is raining. But, sometime within the next week, my Vibe will receive its first trip into the dealership for service.

The water is getting in under the weatherstrip where it grips onto the flange, not between the glass and the rubber. Your weatherstrip is defective.

Or, it could have been bad from the beginning and it is just now starting to leak (bought the car in early Jan.) I have scheduled an appointment for Thursday. We'll see...
