I'm sure something will happen to make me regret it at some point (always seems to work that way) but for now I'm pretty thrilled. I bought my bike today. A metallic red 2007 Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Not the biggest, fastest thing but given my goal of solid gas mileage and just something to get around town with... I think it's exactly what I needed. I just love it. Light, nimble... plenty of power for getting me from A to B. Of course once it is broken in I'm bound to play a little bit but I tend to lean toward the conservative when I'm on two wheels (4 wheels is another matter ).Anyway, I'm excited and already can't wait to get back out on it.
Very nice! I've wanted a bike for a long time, but I know I will kill myself on it, and I'm not at all about riding in any kind of ****ty, weather, so I had to have something with 4 wheels and a top forst, but once you start modding.... well, you can't afford to have it all! Looks sweet, though, be safe riding that thing!

Ha! As you can tell from the helmet, I'm all about riding safely. I plan to pretty well deck myself out with riding gear progressively. It's not so much me I'm worried about but everyone else. I've already seen today just how poorly people pay attention in this town. Don't have to worry much about the weather here. Except for the snow in winter it stays pretty dry. Heat will be a problem come summer but oh well. The helmet, pants and heavy shoes stay on. No shorts, sandals or helmet-less riding for me. Anyway, I've effectively killed my mod budget for the Cobalt. I had some plans but they're no more. I can't say I'm disappointed, though. I think I'll enjoy the bike just as much.
Very nice looking bike.Quote, originally posted by millster »Ha! As you can tell from the helmet, I'm all about riding safely. I plan to pretty well deck myself out with riding gear progressively. I've not purchased from them myself, but I've heard really good things about both the gear and the prices from this place.
Thanks everyone! I was back out again today and still loving it. Finally getting used to its little quirks, too. The hardest part is keeping it below 4000RPM for the first 500 miles. That makes shifting a very frequent occurrence. Anyway, to those who wish me to stay safe as I noted above, that's paramount for me. I don't plan to be racing this bike or doing stupid stunts on it. If I had, I'd not be riding a 250cc, for one. jwalcik:Thanks for the link! It's hard to beat those prices, to say the least. I might just have to give them a try!!Sunny:I know the 2 strokers have their advantages but I'm not a fan. They do still make streetable dirt and enduro bikes here in the states, but I wouldn't want to ride one. Keithvibe:One word... well, one symbol. ""j/k And hey, even if it were a girl's bike, I'm secure. djb383:I kinda hope it doesn't grow up. To be honest, something with two wheels and that much power scares the Hell out of me. But hey, if that's what it wants to become... I'll not stop it. I could sell it for a nice profit.
Oh yeah. I know it will. It's no slouch at all but I plan to make it act like one. I suppose there will be the inevitable run to the redline at some point but I truly just plan to use it as a commuter bike. The important part now is just to stay out of the way of the other maniacs and never let myself be complacent. That's a large part of the reason I went with the red bike, though. Anything to make myself more visible.
Congrats! Can't wait to get another bike. I sold my Shadow a couple of weeks ago and have been shopping around for another bike. I want more of a sporty bike, I just don't like cruisers.

Slick bike, love to color Around my town it is def. bike season, people cruising the beaches and what not. We tend to get a little more modest with our driving and giving people room as I am not about to have a bike in my trunk or on my hood.
you know what will happen huh? it happens to everybody who buys a 250r.... in less than a year you will be trading in the 250 for something bigger. i started with a 250 then was like this is so fun. till i went riding with some guys that had 600s & 1000s. couple of weeks later i was trading it back in on a 600 f4i honda cbr. every person i know that has bought a 250 has wound up trading it back in. have fun though and my biggest suggestion.. is get the kevlar pants. they are so worth every penny....
Thanks again, everyone. Just another update... now 25 miles logged and still totally in love. ANO:I know it will be. Actually, I gave it a little goose today to get out of the way of someone who apparently wanted my lane and got a taste of just what that little thing will do. I think it'll be more than enough power for my purposes for a good, long while.NUBlackshirts:I'm a sporty bike guy, myself. I just don't like having to hold up one of those big tanks. This little guy practically balances itself. Rebbierae:You're darned right it is! But I think you know what would make it look even better. ToolGuy:Thanks! Obviously, I'm quite happy with it.TraySeeLea:This is a perfect beginner's bike, actually. Very light, balanced, and is very well mannered.
Excellent starter bike. If you live in town it is a perfect bike to have some fun on. People always say you should start out on a 600..but I dissagree, these days most 600's are all raced prepped and very hard to learn on.

Don't let the fact that it's "only" 250cc fool you. These bikes are pretty light so unless you weigh a lot they can haul pretty good. There's a reason why they call these things crotch rockets. The Police HATE these things. Put a 150 pound teen ager on one of these things and they'll go faster than the Police cars.At any rate, I've thought about something like this, it's just not my preference for riding position. I've been told they can get kind of uncomfortable over long rides. For shorter rides and commuting and such, though, they're awesome. Great on gas. Easy to park.Like everyone else has said, just be careful. You'll find out before long that these things move faster than you think. Avoid the temptation to do so and you should be fine.

But, 600 for this type of bike is WAY too much power. The 500 is already faster than just about any sports car (stock) on the market.
Nice looking 250! I just picked one up too, It wqas wrecked when I got it for free from a friend. $700 and 2 months later I have a new to me bike.here are some pics of mine.the purple windshield is being replaced soon
trayseelea'sboy, I've been reading thru alot of bike forums lately learning as much as I can (I plan on getting one someday). I came across the thread (can't remember what forum) about your bike rebuild thinking "damn, that's neat and it came out awesome" haha the internet is a small world Millster, I was playing in photoshop the other day and de-flamed your bike
Quote, originally posted by ANO_Vibe »Millster, I was playing in photoshop the other day and de-flamed your bike Hmmm... I have to admit that I don't hate the look. I think the flames are just decals anyway. The problem is that if I strip the decals, I'm afraid if I decide to sell it at any point, someone might think it was wrecked. But at the same time that makes it look so clean... argh! Now I can't decide.
